Who else has fitted a Scorpion exhaust? Fitting issues help!

I've bought a Scorpion exhaust off here but I can't get it to stop knocking on the rear beam over speed bumps and it's VERY IRRITATING!

I've tried twisting the rear box to get it to sit higher, changed the rear hangers, done the socket set bodge (which ended up being too tight and cracking the centre box!). But it's still knocking!

Are you able to reheat the pipes and bend them to adjust? It's not the RS192 exhaust it's this 3.5" Scorpion. Anyone else having similar issues?

I had one on mine. It was ok when I bought it but started knocking after a few months. My mechanic mate made up a new hanger from some mini suspension bushes. It still knocked when I had two adults in the back.

I think your best bet is to try a different type of hanger before you try heat and bending the pipes.

Got any pics of it mate? I'll try anything! Don't want to reheat unless I have to cos doesn't it weaken the steel?

You mean a modified standard hanger bracket like the Prima racing ones? It's just that I made the bracket really tight before and it ended up putting a hairline fracture down the centre pipe :(

Ok ta. So did you just firm up the standard exhaust hanger? I'm sure the Ph1 has two hangers or maybe I'm getting mixed up with my Pug 205s.

I am going to araldite a bit of tractor innertube on the beam where it bangs as a last resort i have also tried them all even a small chain at the moment. Just to shut it up. It shouldnt melt as the contact is only momentarily.

So it's not just me! Let me know how you get on dude. I was gonna get a Prima racing mount but heard mixed things about them being too stiff - like my socket set bodge!

Just out of interest, how do you rate these exhausts - those who have had one fitted for a decent length of time.

I've got a Scorpion system on my 172. It sits under the bumper and yes if you go over a bump fast it does hit the bottom of the bumper skirt. The only answer is to slow down going over bumps. I had mine fitted by Demon Tweeks and they do a good job of fitting them. Overall I like the sound it makes as its not too intrusive and the engine performs better as well. A little too loud for a long journey. Went on holiday to Newquay (360 miles) drove down through the night and it was a bit too noisy for the kids.

Cheers Mark, my issue is it hitting the rear beam though. No issues on the bumper. Gonna try the araldite manoeuvre this weekend!

But how do you adjust them other than to redo the inadequate flimsy design of the rubber?

Danith - did you have any luck with the knocking noise? I have a knocking noise from passenger rear in what seems to be the left exhaust mount. I have taken them both off this morning and filled them with tiger seal to make piley solid mounts lol.

Just wandering what else I can do if they don't work.

I was even more pikey. I've made the mount solid before and ur just cracked the centre section so this time I made the mount a bit more supportive with the socket set manoeuvre, then glued a few tyre puncture repair patches to the rear beam! Pikey but gas worked so far. Nit sure for how long tho but lasted since my last post up til now!

I'm unsure on the puncture repair part. Did you wrap that over the exhaust part that goes above and over the rear beam?

I have the RS192 system but I'm sure that there quite similar in design.

No you can't put anything on the exhaust itself or it will just catch fire. I just glued some rubber patches onto the beam where its knocking to get rid of the metal on metal irritating knock noise and rattle at idle. Just sent my rear springs off to get lowered further too so that's not going to help!

Haha! Yeah, I thought that otherwise you'd be smokin!

I shall do that as well although there does seem a fair bit of clearance between the pipe and beam.

I'll put my mounts on tonight and I'll let you know how I get on, you low rider lover! ;)

Haha, yes 32 and straight str8 pimpin' !! I'll grow up one day. Had to be done though cos Eibachs just made the back higher if anything so gone to coilsprings.co.UK for a fettle.
There is a fair bit if clearance on mine when you look at it when its on the ramps, but it disappears when you drive! Maybe I'm just a cat funt. Let us know how you get on dude.
