impressive stuff. I really want the nikon 17-55m f2.8, they both produce amazing results.

these are all jpg out of the camera, no PP and not touched by PS.

I was really happy, need to get some close ups now like some waterfalls, loving the shots pete.

Thanks!

dk yeah, out of the camera jpeg's are nice, accidentally turned RAW off earlier, only thing done to these is shadow/highlight, very modest contrast and un-sharp mask, can see this really growing on me.

I was very sceptical, but having recently used the Nikon version of IS (VR, on the 18-200) I'm completely converted. I was shooting 200mm at 9pm, ISO up around the 800s but still getting perfectly sharp shots at shutter speeds I would expect to be a bit inconsistent normally. I'm pretty steady anyway, but the extra bit of help was very welcome and I came home with far less blurred shots than I might normally get.

lol!

ukaskew, IS is quite something isnt it, its my first lens with it, I've suddenly the urge to swamp my 70-200 for the IS version when I get the chance.

djroberts I'm using a 40D which I love but I honestly think a 350D and 18-55 IS kit lens could have achieved similar results.

I'm looking at getting the 450D around xmas time, can i expect the same? Obviously with a little practice ;)

yeah if you spend £600 on that lens. Or cheaper buy a tripod

Nah, the 18-55 IS can achieve exactly the same thing, infact I think it has the more recent 4-stop IS, the shots were stopped down to around f/13, the £600 comes into play when your at f/2.8 ;)

I had a 450D with the 18-55is and 55-250is for a week before getting shot of it and going back to Nikon! The VR works so much better and the AF-S VR lenses are better built and focus a hell of lot quicker (with no price difference). I also compared my D40 shots to the 450D and was not impressed at all! But others have had more success with Canon than me!

I wouldn't say the 18-55is will achieve those results, I didn't think it was a very good kit lens at all!

*your pics are great though... but they damn well should be with a lens that costs more than my house ;)

the 18-55IS isnt great but its better than the non IS the optics are much better but its a lens that only costs £100 ish
