Just out of interest.

Consumables don't count, brake pads, discs etc.

Mines coming up to 5 years old and 34k, only thing to fail is the headlight squirter thing.

Also what was it that broke.

Didn't loony/turkish get something silly out of a set of discs/pads?

My 172 has been great, none of the parts I changed needed replacing/ changing.

My 182 had a cat break the day I got it and after that not a single thing went wrong with it. I only had it for a bit though.

My ph1 is the most unreliable car I've ever owned lol. Going to sack it off after the summer.
Had it since october and had.

Coolant leak, split radiator bung required me to take entire front end off to find problem though.
Rear wheel bearing
Rear brake disc snapped
Passenger window mechanism broke
interior air vent thing got stuck and snapped
Oil level sender went faulty needed replacing
Battery is going downhill fast
Coilovers arent set up properly and have worn my front tyres inside edge away
Probably some other stuff I can't remember along with three oil changes with filters and two coolant changes because I couldn't figure out some of the above issues.

And it needs belts and a major service soon lol, I've sorted all of the above now so I'm hoping it should be ok !

Don't say things like this :( LOL!

My ph1 was pants when I got it, but once it'd had some bits done its been great and has managed at least 25k with no problems.

Oh and how much was the oil sender?

My 182 was so much better though lol !

£45ish from renault, there was nothing actually wrong with it, just me being an idiot and not realising the surfaces I was checking it on were uneven LOL.

I still have the old one somewhere. Waste of money buying a new one :(

43k and nothing...

oh wait, does smashing into a taxi and having the front end rebuilt count as being fixed?

Iv had mine for nearly 4 years and the only thing to go tits up was the hazard light switch that got stuck but couldnt say for the previous two years as i didnt own it!

Car is on just over 30k.

snapped spring in May was the last failure. car's been good over the summer

just serviced it and found that it needs new tyres all round and most of the brakes doing as well, so that'll ensure an expensive start to the new year. the balance is restored:coffee:

92k owned for 2 years only pop the hood once to upgrade to v6 airbox, would of lasted longer if i changed the oil

Bought my 182 with an ABS fault so doubt anyone can beat that, but a few will match it.

  clio rs
not a single fault - reason i didnt even change the oil and ended up doing a rebuild

but even now its the most reliable car iv ever owned, even more than my dads brand new audi

Sounds well looked after. Quite likely something did go round in the first 80k though

My brakes are at 39k same disks and pads 3 years+. But otherwise I cant compete my ph1 has been lavished with genuine parts from Carlton Exmouth and fairwater renault specialist Taunton.:boring: Imo it depends how fussy you are and im a bit of a perfectionist.

Mine lasted four months. It spat its CV boot off. £10+VAT later and all is well.

Its got a slight oil leak but i've been informed it isn't worth fixing. Not bad enough, cheper to just put more oil in. If it gets any worse that will be its next repair though.

7 years and 70K miles, and apart from normal wear and tear, the only things i had to replace were n/s driveshaft (which wasnt actually broken but leaky), and the upper engine mount.
Both these things have been replaced about 2 years ago, since then (touches wood) havent got a single problem

51k and not a single problem apart from normal servicing requirments such as headlight bulbs etc

my ph1 has been good so far, done 70k in it and only had to replace a fuel line that perished. It's been ITB'd twice, camm'd and charged in that time, all on a completely standard engine, box and clutch (all still original).

My car has been a labour of love... :S

I bought the car in June '09 with a FSH but needing some consumables (pads appeared to have a few k left, but discs were past their best). Oh, the engine mounts were also fooked and the steering wheel was like something out of a Dali painting!!).

Well, I left the brakes for the time being, thankfully! (read on). Then sorted the engine mounts (all OE except for the Powerflex dogbone) and bought a brand spanking new OE steering wheel.

The car was also fitted with apalling Apex springs. I soon swapped these out for a set of Eibachs. It's now much better!

In addition, and over the last 6-7 months and 3.5k miles mine's needed:

In the first 2 months I discovered a *very small* oil leak had developed from around the cam cover bolts (under the inlet). I subsequently had them sealed by Danny @ JMS - I thought it was worth the hour or so's labour to have this done for my peace of mind.

It had also developed a slight knock from the n/s strut top mount when pulling away from a standstill (something down as an advisory on my MOT). I immediately bought the washers to try and fix this - off the back of a thread started by Fred. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me so I investigated solid top mounts. Just bought a set of AST top mounts from Kam racing - fingers crossed they work!

Now, I'm pretty fastidious about maintenance and check my engine over weekly (when I check my fluid levels) and just before Christmas, I discovered a significant oil leak from the main cam cover gasket. Oil was seeping down the back of the engine, over the exhaust manifold (stank when stationary in traffic) and onto the o/s driveshaft, flicking oil all over my brakes and newly-refurbished wheels :S.

Needless to say I drove the car less than perhaps I would have and when it was a necessity, I drove very gingerly! :(

A week or so later, and JMS had the cure: New cam and aux belts and new cam cover gasket/ sealant. It now looks like new in my engine bay and I'm a happy chap!

And Pete @ Auto Nation sorted me out with new Brembo HC's and Mintex 1144's. Just got to fit them when the weather sorts itself out and at the same time I want to do a fluid refresh and fit the Goodridge lines I've just bought.

Just what I needed after Christmas! Finger's crossed 2010 is trouble-free! :D

Fail to be honest.

+1.

How is a car reliable if you've had to change the engine due to neglect.

When his cup was for sale at £2k I called him up & asked about maintenance, he hadnt done any at all. Hence why i didnt waste my time going to buy it, despite the fact it was unbelievably cheap.

My cup did 25k in 10 months with 11 laps of the ring. Nothing broke :D
