Who's fitted a 172 accelerator cable?

Has anyone fitted an accelerator cable on a phase 1, 172 (without the use of a car lift). When I looked it wasn't clear how it is routed from the throttle to the pedal. How straightforward are they to do?

I replaced one on a R5GTT but when you buy the cable you usually can get just the inner cable replacement and thread it through easy peasy. If the outer cable isn't damaged no point in wrestling with that.
