Who's got the most extreme daily

Car  Clio 172 Cup
Hey,

I'm new here. I've really wanted a Clio 1*2 for a few years now as a fun car. However I needed to get a car for a 50 mile commute to my new job. Instead of buying a sensible daily and getting the Clio at a later date I just decided to get the Clio now and get something sensible in a year or two. To make me feel better about my poor life choices, does anyone complete a sizable commute in something a bit extreme? It's doesn't have to be a Clio.

Clios have always been my daily’s when I’ve had them. I don’t class them as a bad daily.

My current 360 daily for example does not have: central locking, remote locking, air con, climate control, cruise control, a radio, xenon head lights, auto lights, auto windscreen wipers, leather/alcantara seats.

When you look at it that way, compared to a Clio I could be in an extreme daily!

It totally depends on your outlook, and your commute.

50 miles of A and B roads working flexitime, the clio will be enjoyable.

50 miles round the M25 and youll wish you'd bought an automatic waftmobile.

at the moment I have a E46 M3 and a E46 320d. I work from home so my daily is mostly my feet.

I did have a 205 gti between 2007 and 2009 and used it every day including going to all my site meetings.

I used to do a 100 mile round trip to work every day in my 172 Cup. It was annoying as f**k at times, but still loved the car.

I now have a Vectra for a cheap daily. I don't love it at all.

Used to commute in my S14 Silvia, was low, loud, fully caged, rosejointed suspension, 2way diff, paddle clutch etc. full blown track car sitting in traffic was 'fun'.

Great to hear!
I once drove to work a few times in my kit car and that wasn't so bad. Looks like I'll manage in my Clio then (partially caged and bucketed).
I've got a mix of motorway and b road, I don't work 9-5 though so I miss most of the traffic barring a crash.

f**k I love that car.

I used to have a fiesta st-3 to drive fairly regularly from central Germany to the midlands. Was horrible, never knew parts of me could wobble so much, especially my boobs.

We did a road trip around Spain in the Defender, it was awesome, you get to see so much more at lower speeds (although it will happily sit at motorway speeds)
We set the satnav to avoid motorways. Rural Spain is beautiful, particularly the northern part where you get some amazing off road driving in the deserts and canyons.

There’s nobody about, the place is deserted. It was about 32 degrees C
Bizarrely the mobile and 4g reception is really good, there are masts even in the middle of nowhere.

Well to be fair if you broke down in the middle of nowhere and the temp was 30 or higher you'd be elated to find you can get mobile phone signal.

My commute is a 50 mile round trip from Liverpool to Manchester, the Skoda is about as extreme as i'd care to go. Did it a few times in the track spec 182 with AST's with 11kg springs and EPAS it was truly a horrible experience!

Hey if you’ve got a Sinclair C5 they are a collectors item now, can be worth as much as a cheaper Clio 172/182

I briefly used a Twingo RS for 3 months as a daily, never again, I recon an ariel atom would have been better. What a car it was on the right day/road though!

My 220 Trophy ticks every box though i currently do about 50 miles a day in it, not much

My escort XR3 many years ago but used to drive most weekends from Wolverhampton to lympstone in Devon when I came home on leave being non injection model never ran right eventually might mate put lorry oil in by mistake and it blew the engine !! Did some miles though

Might not seem hardcore as it’s comfy however it’s cost a bomb to run and I never use traction control no matter the weather.

Didn't think my 133 cup was bad at all I used it for 4 years as a daily. Used it for a few weeks up in Scotland and doing the route for a rally with the after the cams and exhaust were done and it wasn't as nice but better than I was expecting.
Definitely agree on the right day/road thing, I have never had so much fun in a car.
Now I use a mk3 scenic 7 seat as a daily so after a year of driving it I am looking for a length of rope and a big enough tree! Tbh it's never put a foot wrong in 4 years and over 60k.

Landyman no way ? I think it was about 93/4 when it died on me I traded it for a little rover metro at the time as needed a reliable car for travelling

My boss commutes in a C63 AMG 507 edition, 6.2L V8. Weekend car is a V8 Ultima Can Am.

Guess he likes V8's! My daily (S60 D5) is pretty yawn, but in a good, comfy way :)

A 65 year old bloke I work with used to come to work on a Kawasaki Ninja 1000

He stopped riding when people started getting too close and now drives a 1.4 Clio[emoji23]

Daily in this beast, got to be careful with the 60bhp produces some right torque!
