why are my steering wheel contols not working

As i'm currently sorting all the little probs out on my clio the next job on the list is the controls for the head unit that are on the steering wheel, ever since i've bought the car they haven't worked so i'm not sure if its a wirring fault or could it could be that the head unit is just not compatiable, if so what head units would work? at the moment its got some panisonic thing in there.. another thing is the little screen in the middle of the dash isn't working, could that be any thing to do with the head unit or could it just be at the end of its life?

if its an aftermarket headunit you will need a wiring adaptor to make them work... what HU is it?

Is it an aftermarket head unit or the origional? If it is aftermarket you will need a stalk adaptor to make your steering wheel controls work, If it is origional then I would guess there is a fault somewhere. Do a search on the forum people have discussed this topic allot.

Yea its an after market one, panosinic.. Would i be able to pick a stalk adaptor up from my local halfords? how much would i be looking at for one & would this have any thing to do with why my little screen in the centre of the dash isn't working? thanks 4 the quick replys..

Only the original Renault HU will allow you to use the steering wheel controls.

You will need an addition adaptor to use an aftermarket HU, which can be picked up for £30-£40. Might be cheaper if you look on the bay of E.

yes it will cause your centre screen to be blank,if you want that to bring up your radio station you have to buy a stalk and display adapter,cost 40-50 quid,as for your panasonic radio itll depend on the model

I had a panasonic CD player and I was told I could buy an adaptor to make the screen + stalk work but it was about £70. I got 1 for just the stalk and the screen used to say renault on it where it used to show the cd etc. Don't really feel the need for the screen to work as there is 1 on the cd player anyway.
