It's a shame really, because as we all know, and indeed as Evo reinforced this month, they are an epic car for the money. Or just epic anyway, regardless of the bargain.

I think people are over looking the fact that as a result of ever rising costs of fuel, food bills and general way of living (i.e fixed rate mortgages coming to an end) people arent really wanting to buy hot hatch cars.

Unless your single with a substantial amount of disposable income and no dependants i dont think people are willing to put up with 30-34 mpg...

I think unless you really under-cut the rest of the private sales you may be waiting a while to get a buyer, that said i suppose it only takes one person to buy it.

Yours truly. Mr half empty lol

what I can't understand is why people assume that if the car is at a dealers it must be a better car?

the only reason i'd sell to a dealer is if there was something to hide and i didnt want the worry of the new owner coming back to me

why make yourself about 2k out of pocket by having a less than market value paid to you for your old car then paing extra again to buy from a dealer?

Some will only buy from a dealers though for 'piece of mind' as they get a warranty with the car. Personally I don't care where the car comes from, as long as it's been looked after & is how I want it.

i'm the same i actually prefer to buy private that way i know what the previous owner was like and that usually gives you a good idea of how well the car has been looked after

^^^

What he said. Yea I bought the Vee privately, and I some ways I prefer it as you can get a look at the owner and decide if you think it's actually been cared for, or just serviced on time if you see what I mean. MOST people though, prefer the peace of mind you get buying from dealers - and with todays society assuming everyone is out to scam them a lot of people don't trust private sellers :( I think i was damn lucky to shift the Vee as quickly as I did really. As I say, personally I have no problem buying privately, but I have friends that wouldn't even consider it.

People that know about cars will buy privately. But the average joe that has no clue will buy from a dealer, as they have some comeback and warranty. Good luck with the sale bud, I'm picking mine up soon and can't wait.

Buy private sell private it's the best way.

Problem is not many 'own' there car, hence dealers look good as finance can be moved to next car.

I'm amazed how many just look at the monthly payment & don't look at final figure. On RS someone bought a 197 for 16K good spec but final figure for cars is jaw dropping £20.3K:S

Good choice Warren glad i could help out;)

  Trophy
I went and looked at one at Allvehicles at the weekend, 16,500 miles at 8.5k.

It really was suprsingly tidy, put a deposit down there and then. Thought it was a bit of a bargain tbh considering the prices of some of the others

decided drop my asking price to £8,500 after doing a bit more searching i think thats a bargain to be honest
i've set my heart on a vx220 turbo over a year and a half ago, now the insurance price has halved from what it would of been when i bought the clio I can finally afford it

Cheers, just ordered a new gearknob, not sure where the idea came from;)

  Mondeo TXS Bardge.
alot of people are being put off "sports" crs because of the rapidly rising cost of owning one, I mean mid 30s mpg and 270 tax, and a high insurance group ( trophies are 17iirc)
and to most buyers, who maybe have only researched a clio 182, not specifically a trophy wont be willing to pay what £2-3k more than a normal 182.

its should go at 8.5k now but as stated the market is kinda saturated with hot hatches right now.

£500 drop thats a years running costs:S

If you want cheap cars, forget performance.

A lot of Trophy owners have several cars, inc exotics so costs are not the defining element.

Petrol is cheap compared to food etc:S

Got to agree with Steve. Your hardly going to be choosing between a polo diesel and a Trophy:S . You will not find cars of a similar pace with similar economy. Look at the 197, pretty much the same pace, but 20% worse on fuel. In my book, 32mpg from a car that will keep pace with most cars on a B-road is excellent.

£8.5k is an amazing price ! Surely it'll get snapped up straight away at that?

And £20.3k for a 197 :O!

I remember when my mates 'step dad' (they weren't actually married) bought a brand new MG ZR with flip paint - one of those factory special edition ones - five years at well over 20% apr (think it was 25% - he was a right pikey) and we had a goosey at his finance papers once - final payment was in the region of £25k. Then 2 years later, Rover went under, then the thick as pigshit wanker crashed it into a tree on purpose thinking the payment would cover his finanace - they paid out £8k which made a laughably small dent but was still a damn good payout looking at the prices of them at the time heh!
