why do xenons need washers?

  not a clio anymore
I thought it was because the HID lights are not hot enough to melt snow. I think the water from the washers is warmed up too.

  Golf GT TDI
because if dirty the lenses will send the light patern everywhere due to the brightness of the xenon

from a quick google search...

Dirt buildup on headlamp lenses increases glare to other road users, even at levels too low to reduce seeing performance significantly for the driver. Therefore, headlamp lens cleaners are required by ECE Regulation 48 on vehicles equipped with low-beam headlamps using light sources that have a reference luminous flux of 2,000 lumens or more. This includes all HID headlamps and some high-power halogen units. Some cars have lens cleaners fitted as standard or available as optional equipment even where the headlamp specifications and/or prevailing technical regulations do not require them. North America, for example, does not use ECE regulations, and FMVSS 108 does not require lens cleaners on any headlamps, though they are permitted. Lens cleaning systems come in two main varieties: a small motor-driven wiper blade or brush conceptually similar to those used on the windshield of the car, or a fixed or pop-up high-pressure sprayer which cleans the lenses with a spray of windshield washer fluid.

Yep which is why everyone says HID kits are a failure. Well they are technically but it depends how clued up / friendly your MOT tester is :)

I'm sorry friendly/clued up still means illegal to me.

The golf has heated washer jets that pop out of the bumper when you use normal washers with the headlights on... looks awesome! ha ha

My tt had ones that came out of the bumper which looked smooth when not in operation.

I'll be removing mine when I get some washer blanks. So what if that's illegal. So are decats and smaller numberplates!

They do nothing anyway. It's like using your windscreen washer jets without wipers, it's not going to clean anything!

I think an MOT'er would have to be very harsh to fail you for the washers not to be working?? Have put my car through 3 MOTs without them working and not one mention so far, plus two of them were at a Renault dealer!

As above though they are pointless without wipers and also they just tend to leak on ya clean paintwork :dapprove:

Mines don't work when activating the windscreenwashers... they should squirt once.

Alas... at the yearly MOT not a problem.

As to being blinding/refrecting when, dirty... what about all the chavs running higher K lamps?
Blinding crap for sure... because bright and blue looks sooo cool!
So much for laws.

JCC you are so right!

Don't u think having xeons or whatever there called look nice? Just the standard ones not blinding anyone?

I like to have them on for motorbikes, just like when I had my bike my lights were usually on

  Polo + Micra
my polo has headlight washers like the golf

just a shame i don't have xenon lamps:dapprove:

^amazing wipers lol. but to be honest how many of you hold the washer jets on long enough to make the headlight ones work?? pointless i think. thats why i have trophy blanks :D

  Megane 225
My Beemer did the pop out thing. Was good until 1 of them broke. Part is something like £60.

  Stagecoach Ticket
just be honest most people of here are massive cleaning geeks anyway so the headlights would be clean and the washer would be a no go incase they made water marks!

My cars to low to blind anyone anyway few hedgehogs might have issues thats about it

Also we have these auto leveling lights, unlike those chavs or any other regular people changing to those cool 'blue' 40.000 K H4 units!

Washers are indeed silly, but some bureacrat thoght that it was wise to come with a law to carry them.

Mines don't work can't be bothered to change to those expensivo O.E.M. blanking plates.
