Bare with me on this one.
I had the belt kit and dephaser pulley changed on my clio around 2 months ago, the cars been running fine since. Fast forward to last thursday, And it cut out when running at around 2000rpm and lost all compression, 1st thought, Belt related.
Now its gone back to the garage that did the work and ive been told that the timing is still correct, Belt tight etc. But its wrecked the top end, Rockers floating around and bent valves. Can someone enlighten me, As im very confused.

Sounds very much like they're covering themselves there.

If it was all done fine, then it shouldn't have shat itself in 2 months. Did you notice any significant difference in running after the belt change?

Lost comp on all cylinders? If its lost it on a single then its possible its dropped a valve

Ok, Ive just spoken to them again, The crank is 90 degrees out. He's thinking its the interference fitting of the crank pulley to the crank which has failed.

And its not some back street garage, Its a tuning company with lots of knowledge of these engines, No need to post names tho.

A crank wont just spin 90-degrees on its own free will.

Someone, with lots of experience with these engines, totally dropped a bollock

They havent fucked it up..
Who did then?

I guess the car worked fine before the belt change, then someone fettled the belt.
Then, without reason, the crank shifts 90 degrees without the cam moving with it..... almost as if the belt didn't turn.

Ive been driving it around for 2 months, So surely it would of happened immediately if that was the case.
How its been explained to me, Is that the crank pulley is an interference fitting to the crank, Which has probably spun.

  dan's cast offs.
it isn't an interference fit, it's a floating pulley. seen it quite a few times, belts done and a month or so later bang wallop!!

What he said :).

All of the pulleys on the Renault are floating pulleys, very much like the Ford Sigma and Duratec engines. Renault do say that a new bolt should be used but I doubt many do use a new bolt! OTOH loads have done over 4 years work on the old bolt :/.

Human error...

Sh1t happens...

It certainly isn't your problem, you paid for them to do the job, take the risk and cover the potential fails that could come..

Looks like the list of people who can change a Clio 182 has dropped by one until they realise their mistake.

New crank pulley bolt and camshaft fixings EVERY time... Never chance an old one for the low cost of them.

Where did the massive advert-post just go that explained how the company with a lot of experience with these engines had no experience with these engines.

Are they actually a specialist? Not gonna lie never heard of them until then.
Not a renault specialist no, But they have been running these engines in single seaters and doing R5GT conversions for years.
Again, after inspection of the engine, The crank spinning is due to no fault of the timing belt installation.

Did they install New crank pulley bolt and camshaft fixings as per above?

Is that their own diagnosis? They are obviously going to try and avoid blame.

Is that even possible?
I'm pretty sure everytime my crank spins, the belt spins with it.......

I'm also pretty sure everytime I've done an F4R belt change *touchwood* the car ran for more than 2 months afterwards without the belt and crank spinning indenpendantly.

Im from Cardiff never heard of them, cant you get renault Cardiff too diagnose .My father knows the dealer principal there so if you want help let me know. They've obviously messed it up and will rry to make bs up

It's okay guys, the garage told him it wasn't their fault, so there's no chance it can be.

I hate to make a joke of the bad situation, but the specialists above pointed out items which have had no reply, and are likely the cause of the failure.

I can see where you're coming from, and ive taken the specialists posts on board. But at this point in time, Ive just had a f**k full of the car and am happy to let someone take it off my hands.

Car ran perfect, they touch crank and 2 weeks later it's trash..

They are at fail.. Get another garage to check if they don't repair and pay all costs

2 months mate, And countless "spirited" drives before the trundle to the shops where it died at under 3000rpm

What about all those thousands of spirited drives people have? Mine is on 105k, numerous spirited drives since Rentech did my cambelt a while ago, and yet to go bang like yours has. The difference is, I had mine done properly. Don't be a push over!

Touch wood.

I wasnt suggesting that the "spirited" drives had anything to do with it. I was just stating that it happen 2 weeks after the work was done and after little use.
