Why the cheapest quote isn't always the best..

I was just looking through the Civic Type R forums and came across this tale of woe..

Basically i'm selling my Type-R and this afternoon i had 3 fella's come round to have a look at it. They seemed ok. We was having a laugh and seemed genuine. So i suggested going out for a test drive. I took 2 of them out while one of them stayed in the car they came in. We went out for a blast on some local roads then i pulled into a petrol garage to let one of them drive it. As i got out the car he was already round my side of the car. I walked round the back of the car to the passenger side and he sped off!!!!!!!

Naturally he reported the theft and informed his insurers "Highway" - http://www.highway-insurance.co.uk/highway/products.jsp?product=1

A few weeks later the car was found after it had been involved in a major accident and the owner contacted the insurers once more. To his surprise they refused to pay a penny due to this clause hidden away in their T&C's -
Loss or damage from any agreement or
proposed transaction for selling or hiring the
Insured Car or someone taking the Insured
Car by fraud, trickery or deception or
attempting to purchase the Insured Car
by fraudulent means

So next time you want to insure your car with someone out the back of Max Power think again.

most insurance companys will exclude that incident im afraid. also there could well be more to the story than what that person lets on, as is the case usually

They were only changing sides, not much point taking the keys out to switch sides then give them back as soon as they had. Would've only taken 30seconds.

Understandable if he'd gone to fill up or something.

Even dealers do that when they take you out for test drives (a lot of dealers seem to say you're not allowed to drive the car off the forecourt yourself - although it's alright to drive back on....).

Long enough to take the car though......
