why the lack of bass URGENT

  Stanced Honda S2000

hi peeps. i have got a bit of a problem....with my ice.

i did have a kenwood mp3 player in my car, it was great but did miss the features and simple look of my normal headunit so i put it back in and got a local company to fit it. they fitted a box type thing to the rear of my headunit with levels on it and this enabled rcas to be used for my amps. i have switched these levels on to full but i have such a lack of bass. i have sh*t loads off mid and treble but the bass is knowhere near what it was b4. why ? is it that the head units amp coil is not as powerful, shal i have a fiddle with my amp? altho it was top notch. do i go back to the place that fitted the headunit and ask them?

help coz im going to ponty on sunday and wanna rock tha joint with me phatt ass bass, but its gone missin!

the bass on the headunit is +9 same with treble. loud is on aswell, just nowhere near as much bass. HELP

turn the treble down a bit it wlll counter act the effect of turning up the bass.

Have a look at the line level converter at the back of your stereo, you said it had settings on it, you may find these are some sort of cross over/filter and are clipping your bass.

they just have l on one and r on the other. presumably left and right. ive set up both levels on full. if i turn the treble down it just sounds poo. this doobry ferkin at the back of my headunit has a ground loop isolator on it, will that have affected it ?

i mean b4 it used to rattle the panels outside my car ( ask jon 1978) now it hardly moves !

what is this "box-type thing" need more information than that

take LOUD off, this enhances mid and treble and does nothing for the bass, reduce the levels to Bass +6 Treble -2, fade to Front by 3, and to Left by 2, this wil give you a better set up

what is your amp running??

have u cheaked 2 c if the actual amp settings r up high, mayb theyre on next to nothin which the box thingy may not b able 2 counteract

what? mate thats jibber jabber

if we aint sure about what the "box type thing to the rear of my headunit with levels on it and this enabled rcas to be used for my amps" actually is then upping the gain on the amps could help bring the bass up.

Im thinkin the box may simply b a secondary base setting like that found on head units as my m8 uses somethin that sounds the same 4 usin in his boot 2 set up his system and all it does is dim the base level being specified by the head unit and therefor even if turned up max wouldnt give any base if the gain on the amps were especially low.

Its a highlevel input to rca converter.

its rubbish

Get a proper headunit with preouts (red and white plugs)

dont use cheap workarounds

id agree with u 2,i cant understand y this box thingy is there,id of thought all MP3 players would come with preouts wouldnt it?

yes.

(you can get boxes with gain controls)

sounds to me that it needs to be looked at by a professional

hes using the original stereo

read 1st post

1st things 1st, lets see what hes running off the amp, its hard to diagnose a problem without knowing all the symptoms

i have a mp3 player with pre-outs but prefer the standard cd player. my standard doesnt have pre outs so they fitted this box thing, it converts it so that rcas can be used. my 1st amp was set up spot on with my mp3 player, they havnt touched it and niether have i,before as i said it was quite capable of stopping my heart! my second amp runs all my other speakers. thats my front door speakers and 6*9s. my kenwood amp is running the subs. this box also has a ground loop isolator thingy. dont know what to do. might have a play this afternoon. process of ilimination. help!!

number 1 - check the gains on the amp

number 2 - pre-outs are usually 3 or more volts, the convertor you are running wil not even be close to 1 volt, meaning a loss in power from the RCAs

is there any way to step it up or shud i give this up as a bad job, slap the mp3 back in and ive wasted 30 quid?

nope, it is not adjustable

slap the mp2 back in, re-wire the stereo how is used to be

and stop complaining ;)

ive just had a fiddle with the input sensitivity on my amp, christ thats where the bass was, ive got sh*t loads. yummy. just need to set it up right now coz there is loads at low vol levels and loads at high. bit too much at low level volume if u get me. im a happy(ish) bunny.

a big part of your problem is that box your using, we sell em at work and there not as good as runnin proper RCAs

made by Autoleads is it ?.....about 2" square ?

stick your new headunit back in, you dont look at your sound do you ?

yeah it is an autoleads thin. if i have a standard headunit the twocers round here wont think ive got an amp and sub.
