Why is it on rally cars, touring cars etc, that the drivers seat is always on the left hand side?
Ouch, i was just asking palQuote: Originally posted by Saner on 05 August 2004
Why shouldnt it be? Most contries drive on the right (damn Napolean) so I guess thats why they have the steering wheel on the left.
Sorry! I wasnt trying to be harsh at all, just posing a differnt approach.Quote: Originally posted by badinvincible on 05 August 2004

i was worried about driving the Cup Racer at Bedford Autodrome the other week, as that was left hand drive....but once I was in and driving it really wasnt that noticeable, and sooo much fun!!![]()
Trust me fella it does make a difference! One wheel on the grass and bye bye! Been there done that! Took me a long time to get used to driving from the centre of a single seater to a RHD Caterham. Feels weird, there suddenly becomes alot of room!Quote: Originally posted by Nick Read on 05 August 2004
I dont think it matters that much which side of the car you drive. Its only a hassle driving a left hooker over here because you cant see a bloody thing when overtaking. Doesnt matter in motorsport as theres not any particular side of the road you need to stay on.
I dont know whether for right-handed people, its more natural to change gear with the right hand? Anyway, I should imagine its down to cost for the big motorsport teams - cheaper to buy left hand drive cars and modify them for racing than to get right hand drive? When you havent got a warranty, or dealer servicing, or type approval or road legality/driveability to worry about, its purely down to price and supply.
