Wierd noise

Hi all,

Only happens on full right hand lock, however only on uneven surfaces.

E.g Full lock on turmack surfaces (no knocking) at any speed
Full lock on gravel carpark (knocking noise):S
Speed humps (no knocking)

Full left hand lock no issue's on all surfaces mentioned, any thoughts to what this could be as i've had this checked but they have found no sollution to what it could be. It's a sport 172 just wondering if anybody else had expierienced this issue and what they did to resolve.
It sounds really wierd not a knock but a tight tapping is the only way to explain it,
Any advice would be fantastic.

it is hard to diagnose a problem without hearing it but it sounds a lot like the noise is coming from your top strutmount, there is a modification from renault, i would try that first.

to be honest, i dont have a clue, i only know how to fix the cars.

I have a similar knocking on my car. Happens if I'm turning into a road with a slightly uneven surface too or a bump. I took the car down to Rentech and couldn't get the noise to happen so they couldn't diagnose the problem. There's nothing wrong with the top mounts so I have a feeling it could be something a little more serious.

i have a simular thing but to make it really confussin
i have replaced almost anything liable to knock and i still have it

are you sure its not your wheels touching the arch liner and rubbing i had that?

Have changed the top strut mounts when changed the springs and the noise still continues, Will take off the wheels and see if there are any signs of rubbing on the inner arch and let you know

Have checked to see if touching the arch liner and rubbing and has no signs of rubbing, Am going to change the drop links over the week end to see if it cures the noise

recently i have been experiencing what sounds like the same problem as above. However the knocking noise only occurs when i turn full lock to the left. ive also checked for signs of rubbing on the arch liner and there are non, my guess is it has something to do with the top mounts
