Wifes 182

Hi guys

My wife has an 05 clio 182.
I was driving it the other day and noticed that the limiter kicks in about 6750 ish where as the red line on the dash clearly starts around the 7250 mark.

The car pulls strong to the seemingly premature limiter. Is this normal or does it seem to be displaying a problem.

Thanks in advance
Tim

Was the car warm? The limiter's reduced during the 1st 10mins-ish of driving.

LOL
Cheers guys.

It was warm had covered 30 miles on a motorway prior to limiter bouncing!!!
Is it a temperature thing or a time thing.
Obviously controlled by the ecu, is it possible that it is not cutting off this "reduced revs" mode at all???

I've never noticed it before.

As it's my wifes car i asked her and the obvious answer was "i have no idea what you are talking about"

I tried twice, once in 2nd then in 3rd and both times it hit this 6750 ish invisible wall.

Fault code reader the way forward?

get it warmed up and try again.
i had this once, and like you, i swear it was warmed up.
never done again over the last 3 months.
it was like it was my clio's 'special' time of the month.

Thanks guys.

I'll try again.

Whilst i have your attention i also noticed whilst seemingly cold if you are in fifth at, what the cars deems too low revs, if you try and accelerate the power cuts forcing you to change down.

Is this a self preservation act as well. Knock protection?

This thing alive?

Not heard of that before, they don't have much power at low revs in 5th though. What revs were you at roughly?

No shouldn't be doing that, does the temp gauge rise to the middle position when warmed?

The coolant temp sensors are a common thing and would explain the limiter as coolant temp below 85c enables the lower limiter.

Right there is a definate problem then as this "power loss" in 5th at low revs, possibly below 2500rpm has happened on more than one occasion.

The temp guage does rise to the middle and never budges from there.

Sounds like there could be a problem with the temp sensor.

when you mean cuts, do you mean the car seems to bog down, causing you to chage down to speed up? if so that is a trait of some clio's, mine does it from cold, till its warmed up.

Also if you were at say 70 mph on light throttle on the motorway the coolant can stay under 85 degrees, i travel 13 miles a day to work and if driven carefully iv found that the limiter cuts in early, until iv gone through a few gears, then its back to normal

Prob worrying over nothing matey, if you did't know how the clio's drive you would think there is a prob

It cuts to the point of causing the car to actually slow down.

A gear change to speed up and everything is fine.

I'll keep an eye on it, possible drive the car a bit more often. There is a euro car specialist nearby i might drop in on the way home and ask their opinion.

this is what mine does and my mates 182, and the 1723 he had before, when its cold it runs very lumpy, and at low revs under a bit of load its like an old mini with the choke out is the best way i can describe lol

Serviced and mot'd withing the last month. All tip top apparently.

It isn't a big issue you're right, a niggle then to get sorted.

Thanks Lads.

Thanks Russ, the idle is very lumpy, to the point of thinking it has fast roads cams!

Maybe it's just not getting warm enough.

yup chap, exactly how mine sounds, in fact i like it as the stainless system i have makes it pop and bang lol

I honestly wouldn't worry, just keep the revs between 2.5 -3k for about 5 mins and it will be fine from then

This happened to my Trophy last summer. From my experience, it drove fine for say the first 30 minutes, revving all the way to the limiter. Then the longer you drove it, the rev limiter came down to 6k, then 5k and gradually got worse.

I took it to Renault and they diagnosed it being a fuel pump fault. They changed it and now it sings at 7250rpm all the time!

The cams are fairly lairy as standard. And they run like a bag of s**t when cold. Something to do with cold-start emissions control or something I was told, but don't quote me on that.

Need to try again for the limiter issue. The water temp gauge comes up very quickly and gets to half way on mine waaaaay before the car is fully warmed up.

I could be incorrect but when cold doesnt the limiter kick in at around 6200rpm in 1st and 2nd gear, then slightly higher in 3rd? Im sure this is what i was told years ago when i had my first 182.
Once warmed up it should be around 7200rpm.

I think it's just very poor mapping, there is a complete dead spot on the throttle just above the first initial press (where you'd want to use to drive it lightly etc). Apparently the remaps fix this?

  Many Things
my 172 does the same, you think that it has warmed up when actually it hasnt, it takes 15 mins for mine to warm up properly before you can really start giving it some, and even then it sometimes hits the cold start limiter,

It may be worth while to take it for a spirited drive down some b-roads, revving it hard upto around 6k quite a few times before you give it the full beans up to 7250 :)

Had same problem so I got a lush pro speed exhaust it was revvvvv happy then! this probably wont help

Quick update incase anyone searches for same issue.

I thought the car was warm, it wasn't. Spirited drive then 7k+ limit.

Cheers.
