Will a 16v gear box fit a 1.2 engine

  Mk2 V6, MK1 Track Sl#g

My gear box on my 1.2 mk1 clio is just about knackered and a friend of mine has a spare gearbox he said I can have if it fits onto the 1.2 renault energy engine. I just wondered if anyone knew if it would fit?

Bcos I know how much of a f**k on it is to change a gearbox on the old mk1s and dont wanna do it if it wont fit.

Any help apprciated

Even if it did fit it would probably make your 1.2 stupidly slow, 1st gear will take you to about 40 and you car simply wont have enough power for that sort of ratio.

it might bolt to the engine but the input shaft would be a different size and even if you got it to work it would make your clio very slow due to the valver gear ratios. you could get a proper second hand box cheap enough anyway. pretty easy to change the box on yours if youve got a bit of mechanical know how.

Ive got mechanical know how, its just a f**k on bcos you either have to pull full engine out or drop engine bed.

unbolt the box from the engine, tip it up and pull it out from the top. you might have to unbolt a few things to make room to lift it out but its easier than dropping the subframe or taking the engine out.

easier said than done m8, already done one box, got access to lift n stuff so will probs just drop engine bed

easier to bolt back on

i used to do all the old energy clio boxes by just lifting it out on its own from the top.
