Will I need spring compressors when fitting coilovers to my non-sport mk2?

  BMW 330ci
As title says really, getting some coilovers this week, and gonna be fitting them, just need to know if I need spring compressors or if I can do without ?

Thanks

Surelyif you're removing the whole strut it wont matter, unless your wanting to remove the spring from the shocker first.

As has been said you don't need compressors as you're replacing the whole strut.

BUT, he does need to take the old assembly apart as he needs the bits off the top of it, so it has got to come apart off the car, just not go back on.

He only needs the rubber top mount doesn't he? OP also need solid tiop mounts, standard ones are for faggots.

on my set i needed erythink off the old shock, and taking a compressed spring of without a compressor is stupid in my opinion there not expencive either so why risk it.

Yeah a spring breaking lose has enough potential energy to take your head off. No joke.

^ Pretty much this.

I would not want to receive a 4" wide coilspring designed to take the dynamic mass of a 1.5 ton vehicle (car plus people/fluids/luggage + safety factor) on the chin or through my chest TBQFH.

I'd use clamps (and i'm mental ;) ) non sport springs are a lot longer than sport ones, and as said, you'll need to get the top mount off the old setup to put on the new

mate, you can pick up a set from halfords for £30. not a lot when it could save body parts!

you will need a set to compress your old springs off as you will need the top mounts to put back on your coilovers.
