Will this set fire?

Car  Megane R26 + 182
If i put high wattage bulbs in might headlighs say 100w will the wires be able to cope with the power or will they get to hot and burn? Many thanks xxx :D
 
Which ones? dip or main?

As in DC circuits P=V*I so I=P/V and 100/12=8.33A, as the dip beams are rated 15A and the mains 10A you should be ok electrically.
 
Well it'll be pulling 8.33A on a 10A fused circuit, you should be ok but consider a normal 55w bulb will only be pulling 4.58A and its not designed to use 100w bulbs.

Depends on the safety factor in the gauge of the wire used, which knowing renault won't be a lot. I don't think i'd be 100% comfortable using them, could have long term effects.
 
long term effects like what? What ort f things could happen. but they wont be on for long periods of time, or does that not matter? ceers for all your help
 
Breaking down the insulation over time, then again might not be a factor. I've never had nor heard of any experiences with these bulbs tbh.

What could happen if the insulation did break down?? Just put them in my car. looks great but im still nervous!!!
 
Yeh they are, lower than the dip beams. 15A for the dip, 10A for the main.


Yeah I meant is the drivers side fused separately to the passengers side Ben, or is 10A combined rather than individual?

Oh yeah sorry, yes they are. Got an individual 10A and 15A for both side. Then the indicators and sidelights are on different fuses again just for the giggle.
 
Try them for like a week. Monitor your cables, if they start to knacker, then just change the cables to a thicker gauge..... i make it sound easy, but it's surely not that hard ;)
 
If it starts to melt the cables I think I'd be more worried about my fried relay than replacing the cable! ;)
 
How about..

Remove the supply to the buld, put this to a relay to energise it. Then from 'the battery - inline fuse - light' to supply it.

Short term mod, can ty-wrap the cable / loom into place, then review it in 6months etc.

Thinking.. 20amp relay, not alot of cable, few crimps, and hey presto..

It shouldn't do any damage really, granted everything will be running at a higher level than designed but so long as the fuses etc are rated at 10A> as Ben says then you should be fine.

Main beam driving probably accounts for only about 10% of all night time driving anyway so don't worry.
