Williams crank problem

My Hybrid williams has been a rebuild project that has been on going for a while now and I have now become stuck.

When spinning the crank it does not spin full circle freely like it should but gets stiff when the lugs for piston two and three reach the top.

So I am thinking what is wrong, can I fix it and If I should continue.
 
Make sure teh main bearing caps are on right way round, they will make the crank stiff one way and be ok the other way, also check the crank to beraring clearences.

I failed to do this, thought it woudl be ok, and it wore 3 out of the 4 big end bearings, and crank now needs a regrind.

How do I know the main bearing caps are on the right way?

Thing is it is only stiff at one point, not all the way round.
 
try them the other way round and see what happens

If they are only stuiff at one point check the crank so signs of wear, and measure diameter around it, also so same with the torqued up journals with the bearings in without the crank in.

Will need a micrometer tho
 
even a vernier caliper will tell you if its worn oval.

Undo the big end bolts to see which one is causing the problem.

By lugs do you mean counter weights?

When I say lugs I mean the part of the crank that the big end fits.

The bottom end of the block is still fitted to the car with the head and sump removed, sounds like it will need to be removed?

journal is what you mean (the polished round bits)

there was a williams/hybrid doing the rounds a few years back that had a warped crank alledgedly

I bought the car in October from Bigchris. It started but didn't run properly. He told me it was rebuilt 400 miles ago including a new crank and went faulty because he had to rag it when it should had still bin run in.

Personally I think maybe the rebuild also wasn't done correctly.
