I have a dilemma.
I have a dead Escort RS Turbo sitting in the garage, needing at least £500 of work doing and probably £1k+ to get it properly sorted out. Once its fixed, itd have to be taxed, MOTd, and it will probably cost around £100/month to insure, not to mention a fortune in super plus if I use it regulary. And its would also be as unreliable as all old, modified Fords are.
My brother has a williams 3 that hes fed up with. It needs a new clutch, sunroof leak sorting, water leak in the engine bay sorting, steering is not right, needs a service, passenger window wont open, hand brake cable snapped, new bulbs on the dash, the obligatory rear-arch rust... And I also reckon its had a hard smack on the drivers side seeing as its had to have welding done on it recently due to rust on the sill. It also has the cheapest, nastiest tyres in the world on it, which would ideally be replaced before it went backwards into a ditch.
Hes said hed sell it to me for a grand just to get rid of it.
I havent got that much cash (about £1.5k) so could probably *just* afford to get it and get the major work done if I go to Torsion Tuning, for example. I think the insurance will still be about £800 from what quotes I have got in the past (would be 25, no valid points, 6 years no claims, low insurance area) and it would still drink petrol (well, if youre driving it properly
Now, its a bit tired, and would definitely not be a minter, but should I get it for a grand just so I have a runaround until I can get a better job with more cash? I suppose that in a worst case scenario I could always break it, but I have no driveway and the garage is full of Escort. What would a breaker pay for it? (infinicar?)
whaddya all reckon?
