172 is a fast car but no harm in making it a bit faster
The DeCarbon shocks and stiffer springs are unique to the Willy and are highly regarded as standard.
If you just want to tighten things up a bit then you could replace the track rod ends, bushes and anti-roll bar mounts with either new ones or uprated ones (the rubbers will have deteriorated even with your mere 20k on the clock).
This is the route to take if you just want the standard factory feel. Fresh tyres make a big difference too, although BenR tells me that some of the more aggressive modern tyre designs arent best suited to the Willy. You might also want to keep your Willy standard-looking as its No.0002!
But if you want to lower it then the front will require a minimum of lowering springs (Id recommned new strut top mounts too). Im sure you know that youll need to have the torsion beam adjusted at the rear - and the brake bias valve tweaked, or youre back brakes will lock up all the time. The next step would be some quality coilovers (Avo etc). It would also be possible to fit some coilovers and not lower the car, although there might not be much point.
This may sound odd, but when it comes to lowering on clio 16vs/willys its best to lower the front and just leave ride height std at the back. This is how Nick Hill has his, and im hoping for a demo this saturday!
My clio is lower at the front then it is at the back and it croners lovely!! thats with std suspension! wunna get mine uprated after christmas and replace all my antiroll bushes ect like Ben advised.
i have adjustable konis all round this helps a lot!

Any idea how much this sort of work will cost, mine feels sloppy after all the miles and defo needs them doing.
If you lower the back and lose the front end down stance, it will start to understeer!
Ive put the back of mine back to standard, and the front is about 15mm lower than standard
This with new shocks, bushes all round etc etc has made it feel exactley how i want it!
oversteers like a b**ch! but is very controllable and feels just right!
I guess it also depends on the road surface condition you will be driving on.
eg: my old 185/55 tyres carried far more speed over bumpy backroads than my 195/50 ones BUT the 195/50s give me more grip on flatter smoother roads. I lost 20mph on a bumpy straight i drive on when i changed to the 195s as the car was just too unsettled.
