Williams Track Now Fitted To Valver!

Well finally, after all the hassle involved, i got the call from the garage to say my car was ready - williams front track was fitted!

Pics to follow over the weekend but ive been out driving it all evening and can tell you if you have a valver, get this mod done! The difference is tremendous - stability is greater, the car rolls less - cornering speed is immense; where previously i could take one at 30, now can be taken at well over 40! Less need to brake now as the car sticks better which suits the 1.8 - revs can be kept higher, easier.

LOL @ everyone who said it was a waste of time, and you wouldnt notice the difference.

(Although refreshing the shocks with standard 16v parts wouldve helped anyway - thought Id say it before someone else does)

still aint convinced its worth the hassle, since given the doh spent, u could sort out a valver handling, but then again aint ever eaten my hat so there u go!, ps why is image downloader taken the huff

Its probably fair to say that if i had just replaced the whole front end with standard 16v parts id have noticed a difference but i dont think itd have been as much as fitting the willy parts has made. Its unreal and the best mod ive had done IMO.

Paul C 16v: you wont be able to use your koni shocks as i think the bottom strut to hub bolt holes are at a different angle so your camber would be out. Then again, k-tecs camber correcting bolts may get round this....

Total cost has been bad in my case. I opted for all new willy parts from the main dealer and when i put the car in i was under the impression i could use R19 shafts - sadly this was not the case so have had to pay for them and the correct willy shafts. In all, labour came to about 270quid (day and a half) with all the extra faffing about. Parts came to about 500 quid or so.

If anyone else was to try it i reckon you could get the parts price down to about half that using a combination of s/h and new willy shafts and everything else from an R19 16V. If you could fit them yourself then itd be a really cheap. Unfortunately ive had to pay big time as there wasnt a lot of definative information on the subject - just a fair amount of guesses like "it should fit" and "i think my mate did this...". However, considering if you bought a decent coilover kit and had it fitted youd be about 500 quid or so this isnt that bad.....

Interestingly, i came accross a proper williams last night. Naturally i followed him as i wanted to compare mine to his and as he did seem to be pushing it. Road conditions were quite twisty with a mixture of low and high speed corners - where the superior handling and power of a willy would show but there was nothing between us. I think with wider track, the torque issue of the 16v seems far less aparent as it can be kept on the boil with far more ease - nice.

Have you fitted williams wheels as well? IIRC they had a different offset which was also used to help make the track wider?

Nope, offset the same.
But wider rim.

Nope, kept the phase 1s - nice and subtle! I was planing to get willy wheels in silver when i got around to doing a 2ltr conversion but TBH, with the extra speed round corners the wider track has given me, im not going to bother with the engine conversion. Probably just stick to headwork etc or if i get around to re-mortgaging my flat something a bit special instead. Will speak further next weekend tho.....
