Williams vs Valver weight





Bambam, the engine on the two is pretty much the same. If anything, the Williams F7R should be lighter than the valvers F7P as it has been bored out by 200cc!

Wider front suspension in Williams maybe? Suspension parts are fairly heavy so theres a bit. Erm....not sure what else!

Stromba - are these actual weighbridge weights or magazine/manufacturer weights?
 


There are some suspension diffs including a beefer front anti roll bar!

As for the bling bling wheels, they could well be heavier than phase 1s

But you have bigger pistons in that case..

but the willy engine is .......as far as i know bored slightly as well as stroked

maybe a seam welded shell could add a bit of weight

Im pretty sure these are manufacturers weights. Although i saw a quote of over 1000 kg yesterday for a Williams!!!!!!

Ive seen 990 so many time for the Williams i think that is the correct kerb weight. 975 kg seems to be the most often quoted as the kerb weight for the valver.

Thought the extra weight might come from my fat ass? Although i was surprised at only 15 kg extra;)

So the williams has been bored out slightly still wouldnt account for much weight.
 


So its got a bigger crankshaft in. And a differant gearbox and the beefed up wider tracked front suspention. That would p*ss 15kg.

15kg int a lot of weight really is it.
 


Theres no point generalising about Williams and 16V weights because of the various trims and options they came with.

Probably the lightest of them all was the first batch of UK Phase1 16V, which came with no catalyst. All later models (especially from Phase2) got side impact bars and more soundproofing. Options such as ABS, leather, metallic paint, later sunroofs and better sound systems would have added weight on 16Vs.

The Williams 3 with the sunroof, electric mirrors and ABS would have been the heaviest Williams; the Willy1 the lightest.

But were talking about differences of about 30kg from the lightest to the heaviest one here - not much!

The weights of the Willy and valver that are quoted or repeated most often come from the phase 1 versions of both, where the Willy is most definitely lighter than the valver - something like 950/960kg Williams 980kg for the valver. Phase 1 valvers were fully loaded, they had a full UK spec of every extra apart from leather which was an option. So this means electrically heated and adjustable door mirrors and an electric sunroof. The weight of these compared to a Willy 1 which had none of the wiring for these or the sunroof and mirror mechanisms, motors etc. That easily accounts for the difference in weight. I should imagine a Willy 3 would weigh the same as a phase 2 valver and if anything perhaps slightly heavier due to the wider wheels and more hefty suspension.
 


Nick, so your saying that a phase 1 Willy is actually going to be about 950 / 960 curb weight. The 990 figure is an average then or the weight of the Willy 3?
