Colour, you can get a good match by looking around.. its getting them done correctly which is the problem.

No one (or at least, that Ive found) can diamond cut the rim right round the edge.. which is the main problem.

So they are diamond cut all after the rim? So no silly gold after it between the rim and the tyre?

lol....So its silly having original Williams 3 style alloys now hey ?

2Lives are dimond cut.

Northy, yes.. cus Willy 3 style dont exist. They had the same wheels for 1, 2 and 3..

Ive seen BRAND NEW ones from Renault..

Everyone says "I have original alloys" - How can you tell? Low mileage means nothing, ive seen a 20k Williams advertised as "Wheels Refurbed".

Mine are Williams 3 - badly refurbed.. you can see the original paint under the new paint.. BUT, there is no gold after the rim. Why? Cus they didnt paint the whole wheel like they do when they get refurbed - they were bodged.. but, in the case of Williams wheels, it seems bodged is better.

Why are they gold after the rim on refurbs? Because no one can (or at least for a good price) diamond cut the rim right round the side.. youd need a specialised lathe setup I guess to do nothing but that - which, Speedline would have had making thousands of these wheels. The gold after the rim occurs when someone refurbs them - they spray the whole wheel gold.. then diamond cut the rim, but as they dont have all the specialised equipment Speedline do, you never get the cut round the rim.. result? You get gold after the rim..

If it wasnt for sidewalls with rim protection, the gold would look rediculous after the rim.. itd be like.. gold rim looking down on them.. changing to silver as you move your head..

So in conclusion,

2 Live.. did they diamond cut your rim all the way round? Cus if they did.. Id be prepared to make the journey.

Fair points Daz......lol

Hang on going off topic...but -

After looking at gaztwos car (Williams 2 30K Very original) his wheels were silver (as in bare machined alloy) at the rear.....mine appear to be powder coated yellow (not gold like the front face but yellow) so that’s one point to him...

Mine seam to have a different designed rim to the MAJORITY of refurbished wheels I have seen. Martin. Has new alloys and his are almost identical to mine.
But ( I don’t have a decent enough camera to show you) my silver rim, has a chamfer on the leading edge before it drops away into the tyre rim. (i know my tyres are not original but I’ve only owned the car for a year, and they will be exchanged soon) That’s why mine go gold again...would looks pants if its was all silver.

The refurbed ones posted on here by the many members all have had kerb damage before the refurb. So the wheel has been machined back flat to remove the damage, then diamond cut and lacquered. That’s why the majority look the same and have no visible gold after the silver rim.

At the end of the day…I’m not too bothered. They will be refurbed to the right colour and existing style as they are now.... with the right profile tyres fitted ....Mine are just rarer than all the others.

2lives have gold after the dimond cut rim as they should have ;)

The sad thing is, when mine get refurbed Ill have gold after the rim.. (incorrect ;)) mainly because I dont wanna spend 1k on wheels when for £250/£300 I can get them done wrong, but then, only people who know about them know they are wrong.

Don’t see why you have to.... diamond cuts can go around corners pal...Just show them exactly what you want and they will do it.

Providing the alloys aren’t badly bucked or damaged.

Best way to settle this is to have a National Williams meet at the Williams Factory and see 0001. All the williams together we must be able to settle the debate.

Ill get it organised.

0001 might have been refurbed tho.. and how can you tell if they havent?

If I remember, 0001 has the wrong tyres on some wheels.. not the original ones that it should have.

Only way, is to goto Renault and buy a new alloy.

lol...you read into stuff to much daz.

Gaztwos car (original will 2) came on Dunlops....

Just to let you know - New Reno wheels are near identical to my rims pal.

But new wheels dont have gold after the rim.. ;) Not visibly anyway.. like refurbed ones.. maybe its further round, I dunno.. but its definetly not visible.

Ok!

Enough with this again.

If you want to carry on with this conversation? Do it on a seperate thread!

Malcs back off honeymoon so ill post some pics up very soon.

I spoke to a nice bloke a few weeks ago in Safeway carpark, he asked me where i got my wheels re furbed, because he has williams no. 3??, hes had it from new, and the wheels are in desperate need of some attention. Not been touched since new. He gave me his email, I can contact him and ask for some pics of the original rims.

May help to find out? Mine were re furbed by lepsons last year or the year before. they were diamond cut ( pretty sure) ill take a pic in a min. see if there is any gold before the rubber.

  williams and trophy

daz mate......yes they do and yes it is.........mine came with 5 absolutely unfurbed original alloys...........

they are a greyish colour on the inside of the rim....the gold does come after the polished lip....and its still on its original tyre that it left the showroom with............if all willy wheels are the same, how come the some of the unfurbed ones are difrent colours??......both my williams had dif coloured wheels, none refurbed.....was hard to tell tho unless u put em side by side

Northy, assuming that wheel pic was re-furbed, where was it done? i need mine done again soon. and that looks good. have heard some bad things about lepsons recently.

Cheers

Rich
