Windscreen crack

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Notice this morning i have a hairline crack starting from the top of my windscreen, going diagonal about 6 inches long. Cannot feel it from the inside, but dont know about the outside though.

Would this be repairable? or would i need a new windscreen?

How much would it be for either?

im in the same boat..
repairable - no
new one - you'll need to sell the car to afford it.
im waiting for my insurance renewal and im taking out windscreen cover ;)

Lol, stone chip by any chance?!

New windscreen will be shed loads, doesn't sound like its repairable. Best thing to do is claim of your insurance, think its about £60-75 excess and shouldn't effect your NCB.

What insurer are you with? I had to have a new windscreen, and it only cost me £50 excess. I think most insurers are about £50-60.

Your insurance should have a deal with an auto-repair windscreen company and will charge you a fixed price and it shouldn't affect your no claims either. Shame you aren't in Leeds, there's an AutoGlass tent on the White Rose Centre car parks you could ask for advice!

Maybe you should purchase a windscreen bra ;)

Give Gavin a call from Autoglass. That bell end will come out & do it (so he says on their stupidly annoying advert)

I'm with Tesco insurance.

I'll give them a call later, and see what they say?

Have i anything to worry about? as in will it crack even more etc etc? Coz i can't do anything through insurance until im back at home. I'm in Telford @ my gfs at the moment until the new year :S

don't worry about it

call Tesco to confirm your glass cover, if it's covered, it'll be no more than £70 and it won't affect your NCB.

if you're not covered and the crack's not serious, wait until insurance renewal time, then claim on your new policy.

dynamique screens are the same as 182 FF screens, with the heat-reflective coating and are about £450 ish + VAT

what should i do now if its not covered?

What can i do IF my insurance doesn't cover glass damage etc?

And what do you think are the chances of Tesco Insurance covering it?

if your insurance dosnt cover it, you have to buy one yourself - simple as that.

i know that tesco do windscreen cover but i think you have to specify you want it.
same as my insurer, unless you tick the box you dont get it.

Well reading the tesco insurance website, and says if i chose fully comp, then im covered. At the moment, i am unsure whether i chose fully comp or not! I hope i did!

I would ring them, but i dont have my insurance policy number details with me, as i am at my girlfriends. - As i already said in post 8.

you don't need your policy number. call them and have them run you through an identity check.

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Is that neccesary?.. Why do you seek attention?

I will ring them up tomorrow, because iirc they close at 8pm.

FFS! you were told today at about 3pm to call your insurance company and ask.

Its 10.40 and you still haven't done it.

You don't know if your 3rd party or Fully comp??

JEEEEESUS! do you still have velcro on your trainers?

  Suzuki Ignis Sport
Well i haven't called because i haven't got the policy number...

Its at home. And I'm elsewhere.

I have got hold of the number now, but its too late. i'll ring tomorrow. Is that alright?

Ring up without policy number? With a name/DOB/post code they can get your details. Seems a bit of a daft question none the less.

I know, i could've. But wanted to wait till tomorrow anyway. coz nobody will come out to do the windscreen in the dark. correct?

Correct. All windscreen fitters are scared of the dark.

Haz, you really are serious arent you? Are you really like this in real life??

If you have glass cover, they will come out TWENTY FOUR HOURS A DAY!
What happens to people whose windows get smashed at night?? Do they just drive around with some swimming goggles on? No, they call the insurance company, who send a windscreen fitter.

Now, be a good lad, run along and call your insurance company for the love of god!

When you give your insurance company a ring, and if you're covered, they'll tell you to use one of their recommended fitters. Best to do it their way, it'll cost around £60 and it's minimal fuss. I used to work in the office for an independent windscreen replacement company in Stoke so I know that most companies will bend over backwards to get your business. We did anyway. They can fit it pretty much wherever and whenever you like, as the insurance company will foot the bill. Things like this, especially seeing as the RS Clio's screen is so expensive, make fully comp cover very worthwhile. Tesco definitely do windscreen cover btw, I used to have to deal with them. As long as it isn't the 'value' cover option. It only saves about £50 on a £670ish policy anyway, it's a bit of a misnomer.

But yeah, what's with all the bitchiness on this thread? I really don't want to know whatever history there is but there's no need for it. Are we all 14? I bloody hope not. If you are, get off your dad's computer and put a DVD on. There's a good lad. ;)

i got my car broken into when i went to leeds (aii i know) notcied the break in at around 5ish he turned up at 3 in the morning i had to stand outside with my car all evening with loads of wreckheads walking past then i had to follow him back to autoglass as it was to dark which was 30ish mins away then i had to make my own way back getting lost ending up driving "in" the town centre where the shops are and people were walking around, ran through so many red lights they were just going off and knowone was there!

note to self - i hate leeds

Tesco DO cover windscreens.

The however dont cover those chip repairs..... u know the companies who will fill in small chips etc.. (Tesco dont deal with any of them)

Excess on Tesco Windscreen cover has gone up to £75 since last year (Used to be £50)

You dont even have to ring Tesco....says on the policy you can contact Autoglass direct, infact the number they give you is Autoglasses main centre.

Crack = new screen.

Give them a buzz and sort it. Dangerous to be driving round with it damaged like that anyway.
