Windscreen washer fail...

  Mondial 172Cup (A/C)
Hey, was driving to work this morning and my windscreen washers won't work. I know there's water in there as I checked the bottle, and it sounds as if the motor is whirring and whining like usual, but no squirty-squirty!! Is this a common issue? Can anyone help?

Motors can be had for around £8 on ebay.

I bought a new washer bottle with both pumps for £20 from my local salvage yard.

You need to remove the wiper arms, the passenger plastics, the wiper mechanism then you can remove the wash bottle and replace the broken pump.

A b**ch to do? Really, took me about 20mins to do. Like you say take all that off, all you need is the basics.
I bought my pump of ebay for £6.50 including delivery!
You need a 13mm socket, 10mm socket, ratchet and extensions. The wipers are held on by 13mm nuts, get them off, lift the plastics, remembering the little clips in each corner, take the plug off the wiper motor, 3 x 10mm bolts, carefully remove that, take the plugs of the pumps, (I say pumps cause mine isn't a cup) then one 10mm bolt holds it in, pull it toward the OS slightly as they have two little bumps that sit in the inner wing, then lift it out. Replace the pump and away you are :)
But before you do all that, check the fuse, and when you get the plastics off check you have power to the pump.

there is a good guide on here.

I fixed mine yesterday-I took the washer motors off and fixed it for free =)

All you need to do is strip off the nozzle part of the motor off (It has white and black ends) Inside there is a little bung with rubber ends on. I used a stanley knife to cut off about .7-1mm of each end.

when you put it all back together you will find that the bung moves freely again!

hope this helps!

If the motor's whirring, then surely it's not dead ?

Check you've not got low as sometimes they get all gunky. Good blast with the hose in the tank (washer fluid, not fuel haha) and see what happens....

Have you checked the nozzles/pipe aren't blocked ?

no, not yet... whats the best way to check?
just to add a bit of info to this situation... my rear windscreen stopped working about a month ago... now the front ones went today... you reckon it might be the pipes that are blocked?

ok, so blasted the bottle, i know its not the washer jets themselves, as i unplugged the pipe under the bonnet where it splits to each jet and no water is coming out, only a very slight trickle... tried taking off the wiper arms, took off the caps (dropped one in engine bay and lost that for good), then couldnt even take the bloody things off so couldnt get the plastic tray off to have a look at the rest of the pipes... FML.

might have to take it to a garage cos i am fuckin hopeless.

You can lift the plastic scuttle panel in front of the passenger wiper to gain access to pull out the washer motor, mine was whirring and only a trickle of water came out, just change the motor.

Got mine brand new from eurocarparts for £13 and took me 5 mins to fit.
