windscreen wipers not working!!!

hi guys got a problem with the wipers on a ph1 clio172, was really heavy rain yesterday so they were on full speed and all of a sudden they stopped which was followed by a knocking noise. the noise stopped as soon as i turned off the wipers and will start as soon as wipers are turned on!! is this the motor or something. what tools would i need to gain access as there is a scuttle panel anyone else had this prob before. thanks

From memory, not a lot. Just a 10mm and a 12mm socket. (with ratchet, naturally).

You'll need something to pop the wipers off. I use molegrips, undo the wiper nuts and then pop the lower jaw under the edge of the arm and the upper jaw on the top of the bolt, then clamp them shut. Should pop off.

thanks will give it go tommorow if time, hoping just a loose connection of something as rear one works fine, as soon as put front on get a clunking noise where it is trying to operate just it doesnt move the wipers.

Sounds like knackered gears to me. Could be wrong though. It's the same wiper mech on all Mk2 Clios so shouldn't be hard to get one from a scrappy.

well found out what was clunking, the right hand side wiper linkage had come out completely there is a pin that holds in the arm hence why motor still working just the linkage not. hoping may be able to fix for moment untill i can get new one.

well im going to have to get a whole front wiper mech and stick that in, seen a few on ebay so hopefully that will sort it
