sorry hitharder - not following what you said... lan which is fat or phone cable? eh? anyway...

brazo, this is the easiest way.

1. Get ADSL (broadband) or Cable high-speed internet access from one of the many service providers.
2. Purchase a wireless router
3. Purchase wireless cards for PCs
4. Ta da (so to speak)

If you get wanadoo broadband, they provide you with your WiFi box and a USB WiFi card so all you would need to do is buy one more wireless adapter.

I'm well aware of which is which - lol. Thank you. LOL. Anyway moving on...

Hitharder - I don't know if you are from the UK or not, or if you a techi or not, but most people at home, either have their internet coming through a phone line or through cable - not a CAT5 RJ45 LAN-style connector. Thank you.

Moving along nicely.

Brazo, can you tell me who your current internet is through, is it dial up or broadband or cable internet etc.

Cheers mate.

If you go wired then use the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and connect the machines with a crossover cable. One machine will provide the connection (the XP machine) and the other will be access it.

The reason I say wired is because I'm not sure on the availablity of wireless for Windows '98.

If you have adsl buy an adsl wireless router. if you have cable buy a cable wireless router. then buy 2 wireless network cards.

Thanks guys but you may as well be talking german lol!

Cupcake I'm with AOL through BT

What I really need is someone to come over and do it and as said I'll detail their car or cross their palm with silver!!!

I'd have to double check to make sure AOL brandband can be configured to be used through a router... not sure if it can. Have you considered moving to a different ISP! lol.

Will double check Win98 too bud. :(

Swindon - doh. Am in Kent. :(

Is it as easy as just running a wire between the two pc's?

cheers

PC world guy lied.

i have set up aol to use various different routers. in fact aol themselves sell around 3 different ones.

But i just used my netgear dg834 with aol when i had it. I would personally get a DG 834g i think it is brilliant router. And i can also dig out the settings you would need and tell you how to set it up.

Just got one of these, out the box and set up in 5 mins for my Mac, I guess a pc would be as just as easy.

Mark you big cockjob if you're still stuck then give me a nod, the old chap and me have a router that does wireless and has about 5ports for hardwired stuff. He'd sort it for you im sure.
