??? wiring problem help

Just woundering could there be a wiring fault with my stereo, cos today it worked for about 2mins then went off and wouldnt come back on, the display in the center console went off leaving just the clock on display.
Advice needed thanks

take the whole thing back out, disconnet it and start over so that you might find what happened.

Someone mentioned fuses, you have a car fuse box but some stereos have fuses at the back of them too.

A few relevant points that need clarification....

Make, Model & Year of car.....

If its an older model then;

1, Is it the original stereo ?? If so, have you removed it from the dash for any reason ??
2, Is it a replacement head unit you've just fitted ?? If so, did you switch the yellow & red live feeds ??

There are usually 3 seperate fuses covering a head unit, 1 for each live feed & one to cover the head unit itself....

The head units fuse will be located near the wiring plugs on its rear face....10amp or 15amp....
The Battery/Permanant live fuse will be in the fuse box....10amp or 15amp....
The Ignition/Switched live fuse will also be in the fuse box....2amp, 5amp or 10amp generally....

If the Permanant live fuse blows, you usually lose other circuits also, (interior light, for example), if the Switched live blows you don't....

The display going off, but still displaying the time, would indicate its reacting as if the head unit has been switched off....(Switched live fuse blown)....

Try ejecting the CD, on most units this function doesn't rely on power from the Switched live, (CD ejects, Switched live fuse blown)....

If its a later model with can-bus, would need to get hands-on, sorry....

If your in any doubt, then low cut tops all round, (sad but true), & visit local Motor factors requesting help....

Just remember though, the guy helping may well be thick as s**t, most of us are....
