wiring

  v.cheapferrari
what wires do i need to buy so that i can fit my head unit, 2 amps, 2 subs, & components speakers??

thanks alot

Some of the wires you will need are power and earths for your amps, wires from your amp to the sub, a remote wire for each of your amps, and the RAC leads.. i think?

not too sure on components though as i dont have any!

all correct above.....for the components you get cable with it but normally it is thin and shitty so i just got a few meters of good speaker cable

okay 2 amps you need

at LEAST 4 awg Live 5m plus in line fuse 120 amp
1m at LEAST 4 AWG earth
4m of 8awg live
2m of 8awg earth
unfused earth distribution block
2x60amp fused distribution block
2x 5m RCA cables
1x5m remote wire
14m of quality speaker cable to cover comps and subs
dependent on head unit maybe a wiring loom convertor

plus rings, heatshrink,

dependent on amp pull you miught need to go to 2 guage cable

4awg cable will melt before it pops a 120 amp fuse, wouldn't put more than an 80amp in.

You really need to post up the fusing details of the amps (what fuses are fitted to them) for us to say what size cable/fusing you need. The power output of the amps would let us guide you on the size/grade of speaker cable, although generally, the bigger the better.

it depends on the length of 4awg tbh however 120 amp is the max I would ever fuse but 2 decent amps can pull that!
no use having a 80 amp fuse if your amps can pull 100 is there?

True, but no point buying 4awg and fusing to 120 if its only two small amps tha lads got drawing 60 in total. Smaller cable would do, be cheaper and be easier to work with including getting through that bulkhead :banghead:

My wiring kit (4awg - 20mm2) came with a 60amp fuse.

I wouldn't put more than an 80 on to be safe. You can always uprate it if it goes. but you can't replace your car as easily if the wiring fails. Everywhere on the net recommends a 60A maximum on 4awg power cable too.

If I was wiring 2 amps, I'd buy one of these for the positive battery terminal and put seperate inline fuses just after, specifically rated to each cable.

It'd mean drilling an extra hole to run the cable but surely it would be safer in the long run?

Dunnaz, lets have some specs, we'll tell you what we'd all do, and you can make up your own mind

start with a 30 a fuse if it blows uprate it......
or use a current clamp fixed to a multi meter...
pop by if you need a reading of your total real rms amps draw
