Alternator exciter wire, which pin

I had previously removed my alternator plug and fitted a spade connector as I was running an alternator from a mk1 on the alternator mounts I have.

Now I have a new cup alternator, I am told the VVT solenoid plug can be used on the alternator so will wire that on but what pin do I need to wire 12v to?

c'mon gang! surely someone can stick their head under the bonnet and see which pin the wire goes to!!

would rather not flip a coin on the matter. Unless wires go to both pins...

Interesting that this is going to the bottom pin. This is how I've wired mine up and I appear to be having problems.

I'm not getting 14v out of it and having some strange problems whereby the alternator is sending 12v down the wire after key off causing the ignition to come on!

I wonder if it could be different on the cup alternator set up?

Plugs are the same on all the looms so I can't see the pin location changing as the plug will only fit one way

Thanks, I found the problem in the end.

Where I had painted the engine block and running powder coated alternator mounts the alternator was not earthing properly.

It's always the bloody earths!
