With the mad sale prices - any good prices on Logitech G25 wheels?

Not tried Evolution yet.

Is it better than GTR/2?

Thanks

I'd say so. But it does lack Porsches, which are one of my faves. It does have the 'Ring on it though. If you like GTR2, you'll love this.

Is GTR Evolution, like Fonza, but for the PS3?

GTR Evo is a proper hardcore racing sim. Its not the best looking racing game, but is top-notch in terms of realism. I went on the 'Ring on this, the day after being on the 'Ring in Gran Turismo on the PS2. The PlayStation version looked and felt like a simple arcade racer in comparison.

dont think you can get these at the mo anyway mate, everywhere is out of stock!

Bugger! :(

As above really? Wouldn't mind nabbing one if the prices were good enough. Really want to give GTR Evolution the justice it deserves.....

If your not too bothered about clutch and the 6-speed, get a Logitech Driving Force Pro...

I really wanted the G25, until i realised i could get one of these for less than £65

It has paddle-shifts and a sequential shift.
Can be used for PC or PS2/3
The pc drivers can be found on the Logitech website, thou i think some may come with it.

If ya want any more real-life info on the DFP, pm me.

Thanks for the reply, Snubbs. :)

You've raised the only doubt that I have about the G25 - the gearshift. It's one of the reasons why I want it, but then I think about whether or not I'd use it? On my current wheel (an old MS Sidewinder FF one) - I merely do the gear-changes with the buttons behind the wheel.

It works - and its quick. Would I really use a 6-speeder + clutch pedal for changes that I can do quicker (and easier) with my existing wheel?

The big plus-point for the G25 is the native support for it in a lot of games - GTR Evo in particular. I just don't know whether to get it or not! :S

Feck. This thing is good! Spent a while on Brands in a low-spec Caterham and managed to get some consistent lap-times.

Feels really 'strange' to actually have a clutch pedal and a gearstick in a game. Even got the knack of blipping the throttle on downshifts - lol.

Great piece of kit too. Really well built and finished off.

I think GTR 2 is more of a sim, GTR evo is more of an arcade game, but that is my opinion, I'm sure there are demos on the net, each to their own!

not really and its not on PS3, just PC

mint find, the reason I have been nosing at the G25 was the PS3/PC all in one job, not too bothered about the clutch/6 speed...

....although saying that, how realistic is the clutch feeling in the game? :rasp:

where from matey?

Microdirect, m8. The Upper Brook Street store had two in yesterday so I nipped down and bought one. :)

I see where you're coming from on that. It took a good six laps of Brands (not that difficult a circuit on the Indy setup) before I found the gravel in a Caterham. To do the same in GTR2 at Donington in something mildly powerful is a real feat of ability. Perhaps my greatest achievement in driving in a game was lapping Donny in a Porker GT2 consistently. My laptimes were crap, but hey, at least I didn't spin. ;)

The clutch itself is no more than a gas-resisted pedal - just in the same way that both the brake and go pedal are. You can alter the 'harshness' of the simulated biting point on the clutch and tbh, my current setup is way too much. Start from anything less than 5k revs in first gear and you can guarantee a stall.

Once on the move though - it's a cracking device. I had worries that my times would be hit hard by the involvement of a clutch - and I guess if you're ultra-competitive and play GTR Evo online, then you would loose places. But as a driving experience, it really does add to it. The only issue I've found with it is that the 6 forward gears are little more than a switch. That sounds crap, but you soon over-look that. What that does mean however, is if you stall it in 1st gear, the game automatically restarts the engine and puts the gearbox into neutral - even though your stick is clearly in the 1st gear position. So you have to disengage 1st, then re-engage 1st gear before you can get going. A small problem that, really.

The icing on the cake is the fact that you have to push down on the stick in order for you to select reverse. I thought it would be a right pain in the arse, but it works really well - and again, adds a little more realism into the 'feel' that you're driving a car.

The crowning glory of the package though (it has to be said) is the wheel itself. It really is a quality item - superbly weighted and rock solid. It has a true leather finish to it as well - a little OTT perhaps, but a nice addition nonetheless.
