Wonky fuel gauge

  Clio 172 (flame red)

Hi there, just wondered if anyone else has suffered this problem. Ive got a MKII 172 53 plate.

Recently I have been going to garages and filling me car up (and I do mean filling it to the brim), then getting in my car, turning the key and the fuel gauge is only going to 3/4 full. Someone times if I key off and then key on again it goes to full. But if I do it again....3/4??? Once you get below 3/4 tank it seems to show the correct fuel level.

I know about the display test that you can do, so I did that and whilst the temp gauge moves smoothly, the fuel gauges moves like a geriatric and whilst moving the needle quivers.

Ive had it into the garage and they claim to have changed the guages but it still does the same??

Anyone??

Well i had to take my car back when i first got it cause the needle shows petrol in the car, however the petrol light is on! Its annoying, cause you dont know which is true. They swapped the fuel sensors or something like that, but just recently it has done it again so it might need to go back AGAIN!

....and so it continues!!

Me car has been in again to get the fuel gauge fixed. The garage have now replaced the whole cluster, which is great cos the fuel gauage is now showing the correct value and no longer juddering!

Only problem is that my total mileage is now displaying 9 miles. I.e. the 11450 miles I had previously done have been cleared. They have noted down in my service book that the gauges were changed at 11450 miles and that has been stamped, but I am wondering whether it might look a bit dodgy to someone coming to look at it, with thoughts to buy?

Does anyone know if there are companies that will set your trip computer to the correct value if you have proof of mileage? Personally I would have thought it would be something that Renault could have done... but there you go!!
