Working the Throttle body?

Car  Evo
Came across this very interesting topic on another clio website.

Nobody can seem to give advice on whether this is beneficial or actually damaging to performance. And no one can confirm results of this mod either.

A few professional opinions of the more experienced tuners on here would be interesting?

Standard throttle body has the small step on the inlet:

This one has been worked out with a dremel and abrasive paper, then smoothed over:

Any gains to be had, or best to leave alone? Thanks for any inputs.

I cannot see any gains, mainly because that lip would cause the tiniest bit of air distruption, i really wouldnt waste my time

They say every little helps but for the effort and work involved i dont think its worth it and doubt there would be any gains. Best bet is to try and do something with the bit along the middle with the 2 screws. Ive not noticed that step on a 172/182 body.

Be different, do it. It's all the little changes that add up afterall!

At worst you will gain nothing but I can't see it being detremental to performane.

Similar mod is popular on the older integra type Rs and they see very healthy gains from such a small lip.

I would go and do it but im more worried about it being there for a reason rather than wasting my time.

C2 lads do a similar mod. They did have some flow information on at some point. Was going to do it to my C4 throttle body. As said every little helps. I mean it costs nothing except an hour or two of your time to do it.

No problems with it being there to help turbulence to aid air/fuel mixing?

Gonna have to give it a go me thinks lol.

No real reason for there to be a lip like there is on the one pictured

on the ph1/cable throttle body there's a lip on one side for a reason. Basically it's only opening on one side of the throttle plate to give finer throttle control at low end. By removing it you're essentially giving yourself more throttle for less pedal travel. just makes light throttle less smooth

Good enough for me then, machine shop here we come lol :rasp:

does seem a bit pointless. You'd be better off getting Matt to fit the same thing that Kev had one his 197. Saying that, i'm sure kev is selling all his modded bits, so might be worth a pm.

Go for it!

Not seen the TB on these closely but the focus one could be replaced a with Jackson Racing item from the states which done the same job.

Just need to be carefull as if you take too much off it'll run at partial throttle all the time.

I dont trust myself doing this so am handing the job over to my local machining shop with instructions and pics lol.
