Worth getting track day wheels?

As above really is it worth it?

Currently got some turinis with pe2's on but don't fancy wrecking them as i use them for road use.

Should i get some wheels just to sit there and be used a few times a year for track days or should i just use the turinis and buy tyres more often!?

One set of wheels.

Im using two sets this year and its pissing me off already and ive not done a trackday yet this year.

  172 Cup, AX trackbeast.
I've got a set of 15" steelies as winter/track wheels, but they're crap for letting cool air get to the brakes as they only have small holes in them. I was managing 5/6 laps tops before my brakes were fading.

Cheapo alloys are a definite next time.

As long as you have the space to keep a second set, its well worth considering imo.

If you want to keep ya road tyres in good working condition.. get track day wheels. Certainly as a novice to track days, most people are likely to get the car to understeer a fair bit, and will scrub off the outside edge of your nice PE2's.

Spare set for more fun and less stress, especially if you're a bit fussy about ya cars like me ;) :) :)

I'm in the same situation don't fancy ruining my newly refurbed ones with a gravel trap

Although i'm currently running 16's on the road so want some 15's for the track and some R888's or similar..

Easier said than done finding cheap ones though!

100% get some track wheels.
I'v got some OZ F1's and wrapped them in Toyo R888's. I had so much more fun with the track wheels. Also i you can be bothered get come race pads, PT97? or Carbone Lorraine. And just swap them for your trackday. Thats what i have done.

Spare set of 15's, cheap tyres. Just grab something cheap, 2nd hand etc.

that's what i'm planning on doing eventually - it's handy having a second set for lots of reasons and the cheaper the better. wheels obv. need to be dead-straight, and i was planning on using a cheap road tyre that puts up with track driving (not all 'good' road tyres will) - something like A539s

it's mainly that it's more convenient - if you kill your only set of tyres, you've got to run around renewing them, and you'll also be less inclined to work the car if you know you should really be looking after the tyres as well

cheers for all the advice, going to get a second hand set of 15's then once tyres are knackered on them, ill put some r888's on them. luckily ive got the room to store them so thats a bonus. just on the look out now as i have been for a while.

hopefully got some oz f1's lined up if all goes to plan!
