would u choose the v6

  Mark 1 Clio V6

There are a lot of jealous folk out there with no reason to slate the V6 at all.

If you have owned one and disliked it in any way, then you may be qualified to state your opinion. But folk who are stating an opinion on it when they have probably only seen one fly past them know nothing about owning one, so shouldnt really comment.

(BenR is an exception, but his use of the V6 is different than most people who are using it as an everyday run around)

The one thing we have neglected to mention is the note you get from the twin exhuast. It is one of the best sounds I have ever heard from a car.

Wasnt even gonna bother writing.. lol. But what the hell.. I got some spare time! lol. Unless u have owned a V6 (mk1 or mk2....not even driven... but owned.. as u grow more smiles with the more miles u do!) u just have no idea.. plain and simple, of the experience of owning one of these will brings u.. its more than just a mad looking machine.. it has character.. I have never met a single mk1 V6 owner that hasnt been blown away by the thrill it brings every single time u get behind the wheel! U cannot explain this...unless ur an owner. Forget just the 0-60s... MAX Power boys. lol.
THERE ARE 2 THINGS THAT THE LESS KNOWLEDGEABLE enthusiasts LOOK AT....

1. The handling is not set up for the track! (but great for the road)

2. The 0-60 isnt sub 5 seconds!! (but sub 6 secs if u use decent fuel!)

THESE ARE THE ONLY 2 THINGS THAT THE (cough) enthusiasts CARE ABOUT! LOL..

Try and ask them another reason to dislike the V6?? lol..it aint gonna happen!

The standard suspension is not for the TRACK! I think we all admit! BUT.... unless your name is BenR.. I sure didnt buy this to kill on the track! Just fast road use.. when safe enuff 2 do so! and Funny enuff.... I have not even been anywhere near losing the rear end in the DRY! (If u race in the pissing down rain... fair enough.. u win : ) It grips really well.. around the bends under 60mph ..If u are a capable driver u would have to be trying to lose it..if thats ur intention?? otherwise...ull find it grips well enough to have plenty of fun in! Maybe not win the next track day against BenR (lol)...but loads of fun!

Owned mine approx 8 months, and covered 10k Miles.. everything is working perfectly! Luv every minute of it... more than the Escort Cossy! The sound ... Looks ... performance .. and rareness... have been well worth every penny! What an experience!! WELL DONE U GUYS AT RENAULT!! ; )

(All the genuine qualified to judge owners of the mk1 will know what its about anyways! : ) Hats off to the mk2 V6!! Its EVEN BETTER!!

Take it easy ... and have FUN everyone, in what ever u chose 2 drive! :)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ totaly agree mate.... If people dont like it? Forget em....

I LOVE IT MORE AND MORE EVERYDAY

It all depends on what you want. For BenR, engine intellectual and handling guru par extrodinaire, a Ph1 V6 is not on the list.

For the average "sporting" driver, interested in the sheer craziness of a RWD 3.0 V6 small car and lulled by the ownership prospect, it will probably appeal.

... and Ben H, old-school hot hatch fan and a driver in the far-flung parts of Wales, wants to know what are they like on rough and twisty B-roads??

great, the same as they are everywhere else !!!

it was great on Curborough track, which is a very small, very twisty, no-straights hardly track !

:D
and it performed wonderfully on those Scottish roads - ask anybody who was there !!

I would love to get a V6 Mk2, the ONLY thing that stops me is that I have to park it on the road everynight.
I wouldnt be able to sleep at night worrying that some burbury baseball cap yob would damage it.

Its not so bad with the 172 the parts are cheaper and I have been lucky so far:), but others down my road aint!

V6 Mk2 for me everyday, but would have a mk1 if the price was rite.

I wouldnt pay 27k for one, I think it should be more like £24k.

I imagine all the EVO and Scooby owners are crapping themselves over the latest round of petrol increases.

I wished Id made more enquiries about the 52 plate one I couldve had for 12.5k :(

Dont honestly know if id spend 27k on one when there is a certain Nissan available for that money and although I havent driven the Mk2 yet (roll on july) Ive driven the 350z and its a hell of a car to top.

I like the 350z... and I know its not just about a car being rare, but I have already seen quite a few 350z in a very short time !! and when I heard the guy boot it... where was the roar of the engine?? It was dead quiet? (how many have u seen so far??) I have only ever seen ONE MK2 V6!...and thats because he lives about one mile from me! (ALSO, only ever seen just TWO MK1 V6s and about a year apart of each other!) The 350z reminds me of the Audi TT when it was first released... if you saw one.. you would be amazed at its stunning looks! But after a few months... the roads were flooded with them and the appeal went.

There are many complaints that the Clio V6 is far too expensive.. but this also helps to keep them more exclusive. e.g If Versace suits were 10 pounds each... kids would be wearing them to school!! Would u still want to own one? Its a strange fact....but all part of the appeal! Affordable = More Common.... Less Appeal.

ok.. some 350zs are very pricey (18.5k to 30k)... but there are already 60 in the Autotrader.. compared to ZERO MK2 V6s!

MK2 V6 EVERY TIME!!

It surprised me how quiet the V6 was at the track day

Hmmmmm.....personally i wouldnt, but only because there is alot of other cars out there for the same money.
i argee with what he said !!

(dunno who the fluck he is tho !!);)

Come on guys, dont get me wrong.

I dont have to comment on the looks as they do look awesome, they do sound awesome....but me being me, looks and sound isnt what its all about, and i understand some people are more than happy with the whole package......maybe i ask too much.

I love the concept, but i despise the manner in which they pulled it off.........too little power from an unstressed engine and they didnt even consider the handling, its pure grip from massive tyres.

Deffo not a hater, ive just realised it could be so much more.

Cant imagine what a grp40 insurance rating on a 350bhp dynamic V6 clio would be though! lol

Mine must have been shagged then. Everyone told me they heard me coming before they saw me.

Mines not quiet either - only just within the noise limit at Donington and at Hethel :)

The handling stuff is not really an issue on public roads at non-license losing speeds. The car takes finesse to drive quickly and will bite if you push too far and miss the warning signs that it sends to you.

Its not technically brilliant performance or handling but its adequate. What it does do better than so many other cars is deliver an overall package. I still get people pointing, talking to me in petrol stations, track days etc (about the car not because I am funny looking bugger). It is a rare car and that 20k you spend gets you into a relatively unique experience.

I agree with much of what BenR writes - its worth bearing in mind that his comments come from experience and as an engineer and as such are worth more than someone simply repeating what they read on another forum or what their best friends, dogs, uncles sister told them.

V6 over a 350z. just too common, and the V6 has an apeal that is unparalleled by any car.

it sits in its own niche. it really doesnt have a competitor. whenever these discussions come up, not only do people talk about evos, and subarus, but they also talk about 350z and S2000 and even other cars.

basically i dont know any other car that has the whole package?

yeh, but youre looking for em right?

Im not sure Id even notice a Z (or even look twice)

my heads on swivel sticks for a V though!

i agree it looks good but as ben said to me it seems all teeth no balls its just somehow wrong :(. maybe the mk1 is louder than the mk2 i dunno but i have never heard the exhaust of a v6 except when i drove one !! its just too subtle. granted if you have an after market exhaust then yes it would sound good but thats the v6 for you they all sound good :)

lol i see more v6s than 350s
you belong to a clio club, what would you expect !!!

well i love v6s guys im not slating them, just thnk id spend my cash on the 350 for looks alone. every1s allowed an opinion right.

Just an example that we are all different from one another.... and makes for an interesting world.. we dont want to end up clones just yet..lol.. leave that till the year 2050 or what ever! lol.

I work with a guy that wouldnt touch any sports car if u gave it to him! He cant understand what there all about? Whats the point? A car is a car...right?? why all that noise? ....and...He has a good point! In his opinion.

I think the thing is...people that like a certain Brand or Style.. like to mix with others that also like the same thing.. u dont see too many Liverpool and Man U Fans agreeing on the same thing!!! Even tho... both clubs are Top Premiership...not much between them! You are going to get disagreements... its just the way it is. Ill pay anyone that can find me a Village or a Town that all agree on the same government! Best TV soap! Best Newspaper! Best Chocolate bar!! lol... get the idea? But... u may well find the majority favour one or the other... and thats where the V6 tends to fall.. under the majority vote.

Just enjoy what u got!! Have loads of fun 2!!

:D

What car would you spend £27k on then Tom?

  S1 Elise 111S

I drive past a mkI V6 nr the Hospital in Reading every morning on my way to work, and every morning i cant help but think it looks awesome!

Agree with comments about the price and buying better cars for 27k but theres still the lottery...

I think both V6s look awsome and each to their own.

The mk 1 is poor in terms of handling and performance for a 20k+ (when new) car. It was no quicker than a std 172 around bedford autodrome when tested.

The mk 2 v6 is a certainly step up, however if I had £27k to spend on a sports car then I would be after handling and performance. The mk2 v6 60-100 isnt that different from 182. Whilst they have solved the handling issues it isnt 27K fast!

My money would be on the new evo 260 (more like 280!) with a few grand to spare!
