would you take the risk?

an engine that is out of a year 2000 172, 9k (so im told, no service docs) not been run for at least 6 years!!

no guarantee for it running or in servicable condition, going for £100 due to the lack of history etc

its listed as spares or repair, what you reckon the odds of getting it running without stripping it down and putting some work into it are??

is it worth a gamble or not worth the hassle?

I'd get it if you were rebuilding one, not to buy in the hope it's a top class A1 running engine... it may well be, but there's no guarantee it's not done 900'000 miles...

tis only £100, but i dont want it to be £100 down the drain if its a duffer

fmp - yeh its the one on ebay, one of 3, bir the other 2 are fbw throttle

thats the thing jesus i was hoping for a guaranteed runner so i could drop it in and not have to worry about rebuilding or what i might find when stripping it, 6 years is a long time for an engine not to be run! however i also like the idea of getting it for £100 ad it running sweet and having a bargain, ive never been a gambler

If the engine was fcuked you could break it sell box, engine cover, manifolds, fuel rail cover etc etc for polishing projects

should be fine, take an engine crane with you if you can and drop the oil out of it, if there's swarf on the sump plug then its knackered
