Writing Complaint to Renault UK?

well how fun this has been lol....

car went in for a 36k service a week ago to renault in warrington...

Set out to drop the front of my car another 10 turns or so on the coilovers....

firstly notice there are marks all around the center of all the wheels, where the nuts are and around them (see pics)....

( wheels are dirty and the majority of the marks have been run over with the finger to make them easier to see, and most are round the bolt holes in the same places  )

obviously where renault have been careless with the airgun (more of this later) and just bashed the wheel.....its fooked up all my wheels which were only refurbished like 2 months ago by lap-tab at a cost of £160.... i was fuming after finding this but anyway i carried on to lower it.....

go out with the tools....try to get the wheels off....not a chance in the world i could move the bolts, which started to piss me off....

tried using a metal pipe as a breaker bar, wouldnt move at all.... same with the locking wheel nut, the key just kept slipping off it

ran the car a few miles down the road to the garage to see if the guy could get them off with his air gun....took 15 mins to carefully get the locking wheel nut off, then i asked could he loosen the normal nuts with the gun and tighten them with his wrench so i could get them undone when i got home.... loosened two of them, on the 3rd the head just snapped clean off....is this a result of them being put on too tight?....anyway so the thread was stuck in the hub...which he managed to get out....

...i forgot to ask him to loosen the normal nuts on the other side, so i get home, take the locking nuts out, then the nuts out of the side he loosened and lowered it 8 turns, put everything back on and tightened them up....

....come to do the other side, cant even move the nuts as i forgot to ask him to loosen them off^^.....anyway i get a bigger pipe....first nut....SNAP...another sheared off....eventually got the other two off.....lowered it 8 turns and put it back on.....couldnt get the thread out though so im running on 3 wheel nuts.....

is all this a result of them using a fooking air gun to put the nuts and locking wheel nuts back on? when ive done it myself in the past i always just use a wrench to my own strength so i can always get them undone again....

NOW....can i complain to renault uk about the damage to the wheels? what is likely to be done?

rant over

yeah would reckon they've used the airgun to tighten the nuts up then completely overtorqued them afterwards. certainly doesn't sound like a renault specified torque. i know they're the only thing holding the wheels on but f**k's sake i'd be having serious words with them

:( gutted

i've heard of this before too fella, they're not supposed to use the airgun to set the torque iirc, you might have a point

Will be difficult to prove though Jord, especially the marks. They may just say you caused them trying to undo the bolts :dapprove:

Gutting though!

I dont fancy your chances mate in all honesty. Ive had a fair few battles with Renault Customer services and Arnold Clark.

The one time I got a result they took that long to respond that my 182 had been stolen in the meantime! lol

Give it a go.... Ive generally had better expierences of gemini.

lol!

well this was gemini....seemed to be rushed too tbh..... usually leave it with them for a full day....was ready after an hour and half....

il get onto them tommorow, as last time i was there they put a scrach near the door handle when they were getting into the car i think....tried to contest but they were n*bs about it

Good luck fella, you'll need it.

Proving you didnt do the marks yourself is going to be nigh on impossible. The wheels being that tight just seems stupid but just be glad you werent stuck at the side of the road and trying to change it.

This is the dealership that told me to risk my life going to collect my splitter that had fallen off on the motorway as they needed the part to send back to RUK so they could give me a new one under warranty, ended up paying £140 for one in the end.

St Helens in future Jordan, speak to Ant he is the RTE, top bloke.

I would have gone to either there or to a specialist, i only went there because i had the 18k and 36k services for free because i bought the car from there.....

il have to get moaning tommorow.

Go in, dont let them fob you off over the phone, speak to Dave the service manager and get right to the point, you aint happy.

You should've really gone straight back to the dealer where the work was originally done, as they may now try and blame the garage that helped you out.

im not going to tell them bout the sheared off bolts, its sorted now and they dont need to know...im more bothered about a £160 refurb messed up

They're a shower of s**t mate all the AC dealers are. Wouldn't trust them with my car when I was a member of staff, they caused that much damage to the rear brakes and my GF's alloys.

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
mate unlucky. Stories like this make me so glad I've never had to worry abotu renault dealerships, I bought my clio from an independant dealership and I use the same garage to service all of my cars as he takes good care of them.

I hope you get it sorted Jordan, but like most have said you'll probably get fobbed off :(

I'd tell them tbh, as that's a complete joke. I hate places who go mad with air guns & do things like this:mad:

Hope you get it sorted. Personally I give them a wide berth (I prefer to go to people I trust)

the challenge you face is that you have left site without reporting the damage.

My meggy was damaged by both arnold clark (wigan) and manchester.

Manchester owned upto it straight away, but wigan denied it, thankfully id been to wigan first and manchester 2nd and the damage was in a similar place so they repaired both areas. ( resulted in a new rear quarter panel!!) But id have had no chance had I left the site.

well i wouldnt really go round, or i dont think anyone else would go round checking the wheels in detail after a service...so how would i know before id' left the site?

They are meant to check the car when it enters the site and before it leaves, when I used to take mine there I always used to check it before I left too as they are well known for it.

Renault can be right barstuards mate. It's took me 8 minths to get a new gear box under warranty!!

In the end I only have to pay 5% of £3400 so it's not that bad!! They wanted me to pay 75% at the start. Put your foot down. I did and it saved me loadsa money. Caused me some major headaches though and wasted lot's of my time and trip's to the dealers.

Oh dear arnold shark have dropped another bomb shell. With there wigan branch they sctratced my car and tried to blame me. In the end i won and got a free service out of them. Good luck and dont take no for an answer.

can everyone please stop tarnishing all Arnold Clarks with the same brush, i work at the St Helens one, which im glad to say has quite a good reputation

if any of you choose to take your car in, then it will be looked after, as Maz points out the RTE at St Helens, Ant, is very good and does look after customers and their cars

  C63 AMG, F430 & 172
LOL arnold clarke in St Helens told me i needed a new engine in my 1.2 when it was making a funny noise.

paid £100 ish for them to find that problem out and they said i couldnt take the car as it was "dangours". LOL drove it to a garage in Penketh. gave it him, 10mins later i had a call - he had tightend up the 4th spark plug. £5

sorted.

well thats most definitely not the norm, god knows who worked on your car, but there are some very very experienced technicians @ St Helens, one fella, Brian, has worked on Renaults for about 20 years, not much he doesnt know

@op

as there a a main dealer i find this discusting

they should have hand tightened your wheel bolts and used a torque wrench

when i worked for veedub this would lead to a serious bollocking from vw uk if they foiund out

if you dont get any action and proper goodwill/reimbursement etc i would contact renult uk

I agree, I have changed my view of them all beig a bad as each other after dealing with Ant the RTE at St Helens, but this is the only good experience I have had with AC/Renault.
