Just running quotes for my next car.

Was looking at a bora, 1.6 S. Group 6. With suspension mods and me as main driver, just under £3000.

Polo 1.9 SDI, group 2. With suspension mods and me as main driver, £5000?!?!?!!?

WTF. Someone explain this too me as I just don't get that?

Oh and for the record, my Clio (group 7) costs about £3500 with no mods and me as main driver.

I was more shocked at the Polo being more. Considering it does 0-60 in 17 f**king seconds. My hair grows faster than that. Even if I do crash it it's not going to be going fast enough to cause any type of damage ever.

Stupid gay insurance.

Since November.

I live in a Village in oxfordshire outside of the main town. I don't think the local's here lock the doors ffs. Not exactly like it's going to get nicked. Even if it did, I'll just catch up with them using a brisk walk and hold on to the car thus stopping it.

Hazza, this is using a combo of....

confused.com
gocompare
comparethemarket.com
direct line
admiral.

Try a quote on a 1.9 TDi dude. I found them pretty cheap...that is unless your scared of coming over to the DERV side ;)

Ha. Fair enough dude. Guessing you're doing the standard putting your mum on and that yea? You done pass plus? Mine cost 120 to do, but saved me 300 so was worth doing overall, just a thought that's all :)

Yeh mum as a named to bring the quotes down. Was going to do a pass plus, someone told me the benefits only last for like a year or something or is that bull?

Offices are open for the bigger companies. Look at the bottom of your results from the test you did at night and you will see loads of insurance companies with something like "we were unable to obtain a quote" by their names. Thats cos its outside business hours.

Loada b****cks i know as the quotes arent exactly produced by humans anyway??

Ummm, I think it knocked £100 off when I switched over to modified cover last year? That's IIRC though :S. But still, even if you did only get it one year of bonuses, and you got the same amount off as me (just as an example) then you would still be £180 off overall. But TBH cause we're young I think it'd have an impact for a couple of years at least, not just the initial.

Aaaaah suddenly it makes a lot of sense. As a lot of insurance companies didn't provide quotes! Well I'm only on a 5-8pm shift tomorrow at work so i have the day to run some quotes :) Slow as f**k derv here I may come....

always found VW insurance to be more expensive than other similar cars. Quoted to change from my 1.9 205 gti to a mk2 golf gti once, they wanted £800 more. Justification was, "well it is a GTI" .....no s**t, what was i already a driving LOL

Yeah VW's are more due to parts costs I think. But still a group 2 car that drives like its running on porridge vs a nippy 1.6 GT thing.

How the? What the?

When I was 17 I got insured on a 1.2 16v Dynashed for £1200! I crashed that year and the premium still halfed the next year. Got down to £350 by the time I was 21 then bought a Sport.

Why don't you just get a 1.2 and use that for a few years till you get some more no claims, etc.?

Lol at £5k. I was gutted at the £400 I just forked out for mine.

As said, don't get an SDI, under any circumstances. Have you looked at Seat Toledos? Pretty much a Bora with different body panels. I imagine they would be muchos cheaper to insure as well.

That's what I'm looking at Poolo 1.2's or 1.9 SDI because they are only insurance group 2. Still getting stupid quotes in excess of £4K?!?

Heard the SDI was s**t so I'm not going to bother. And I bloody hate toledos lol.

I'd ring up places. God knows why 4k is so bad. A 1.2 shouldn't be that expensive. Or at least you wouldn't think so. Good God.

Exactly, considering I pay LESS for a 128bhp 1.6. What someone said before about the end of the month thing, could be right. I could get the quotes for a modified bora for less than £3k last week.

It's the Mods and the fact that you are what 18? 0 NCB, driving less than a year. You are in the category of most dangerous on the road, wether you are or not.

Are you getting quotes yourself, or using the comparison sites? I tried one the other day, got quotes of £3k. Eh, no.

  Barge
If I were you I'd stick with something standard, 1.2 16v is fine. Maybe even 8v, as you're a boy and they don't like you because you usually all mod your cars terribly and drive 100mph everywhere, donutting around retail parks on a night, etc.

1.2, leave it as is. Use that for a few years then get something bigger. Done.

Using comparison sites atm. Any private brokers that'll gimme a good quote?

Oh and I'm 17. And the only mod I've put is "Modified suspension". Even so it never affected the quotes this much!

LOL I certainly don't drive like the stereotype needy. And I was just going to Euro a bora, but we all have different tastes.

Comparison sites are gash. Doing the work yourself is always best, in my experience.

Fair enough. But as said if its the end of the business month that = high quotes anyway, no?

  Barge
My point was more just start small and normal - ignore mods. You need to give them as little as possible to penalise you with. I'd just ask your current insurer what the price would be to change to a lesser car, and see how much they'd refund from the premium on the GT.

Tesco were best for me at 17. The M&S. Then Diamond for two years. Then DL.

Ring them is better than comparisons at your age, or use their sites directly for quotes.

My thinking for the Bora derv is that I do a shed load of miles, and its cheaper to insure, cheaper to buy. And if i get bored, I can play about with it. I wouldn't bother with a older clio because I can get more Bora for the money tbh!

What?! Must be because you have a vagina and boobies.

When I was 17, I paid £1600 insurance Rover 216 GSi (ins grp 11). A year later with a claim (a cheap claim too) and 3 points, I paid £1800 on a clio mk1 1.4 8v (ins grp 5). But similarly I was down to under £350 at 21 before I got my 172 (3yrs NCB at the time IIRC).
