Xbox Voice Chat Issues

So, today I started an Xbox party with my mate, aiming to play CoD. Joined up, and my microphone wasn't working! I couldn't hear anything in my earpiece, and my microphone wasn't responding. I tried 2 different controllers and 2 different mics (old plug in headset styles). One of the headsets is a few days old.

Any ideas what could be causing this? Worked fine yesterday!

I was speaking into the earpiece and listening to the mouthpiece. God knows why I couldn't hear anything
