York Sunday... your times

  EP3 Civic Type R

Just wanted to know who was going to York and what you are hoping for in your clios etc...

Im hoping to get into the 14s in my 106... Wouldnt mind going up against a few 172s... what category do they run in on the day?

;)Well I was going, but looks like Im going to Creamfields now...

I used to run 14.5secs in my Cup at York, Id be impressed if a 106 GTi gets into the 14s as the last one I raced there was an LAD tuned one when I had my 306 Rallye (14.8secs) and I killed it!

Standard 172s generally run low 15s

You wont run in the same class though, it goes off engine size!

14.5 in a cup is impressive... was that standard? My best time in my other 106 was mailto:15.3@92">15.3@92... that was with just under 140bhp and car was overheating (rad cracked) .... Im pretty sure with a good enough start 14s is possible... see what happens

14.8, standard mk2 172 (except from cat back zorst) is my best 1/4 time. Still had interior in though.

Not quite...

Only mods were a Pipercross Viper and the rear seats were out, but the car was still fairly new with only ~3500 miles on the clock!

Was a good un though. :D

Thanks TheJesus, technically it is modified but your right, it aint gonna make a noticable difference, at least it wont without further breathing mods (which I dont have).

So did the fact that I had only 1/4 miled 2 times before I got it fitted.... and never been 1/4 miling before that...

It was 14.7 @ 93mph. I had quite a few at 14.7 but just couldnt break it, it was pissin me off!! lol Oh and it was only the rear seat out/no spare wheel.

SHould be some quality motoring this Sunday then! To be honest 106GTI I think youll struggle to take half a second off your previous best without a great deal more mods, or at least chucking out a load of heavy stuff. But 1/4 miling is all about trying, so best of luck! Run low tyre pressures at the front and ditch the interior/spare wheel, arrive with a 1/4 tank of fuel and you could gain 2-3 tenths I would have thought...

Ive spent the week preparing the Clio for the definitive quarter mile run this year; the York launch strip should be worth 0.1-0.2 compared to Santa Pod, experimenting with tyre pressures at Donny South I found that 19psi works best, had the front suspension out and fettled spring rate and length so the wheels can really dig in without fouling the arches or struts, paddle clutch proved its worth on the 0-60 last weekend so a decent 60ft time is within my grasp, overheating problem is now sorted out, new exhaust is lighter and gets the turbo spinning up quicker, plus it meant I could ditch a bit more of the heatshielding from under the back of the car, now just hoping the new chip will be in at BB before Saturday so we can fit it and get her up to 240+ bhp. So if I dont get in the 13s, even without the remapped chip, Ill be disappointed.

I have had my 172 with just the spare out,cat back and lowering springs run a 14.71 at 94mph at pod. It ran about 3 other runs under 15 seconds.

Wish i was able to keep it so i could mod it more :(

In my book standard = NO mods or stripping!
So did you leave the Bread in the back of the CTR?! :p LOL

Standard in my eyes means no mods ;)

In youre standard eyes, i got a 15.2 @89mph but that was my first time up a dragstrip!

Yeah, standard is standard. But I cant see how taking out your spare and rear seats (which weigh absolutely f**k all anyway) is going to knock a whole half second off your time......

Cheeky...

Well I aint fathomed out how to get the rear seat out yet, so been run with it still fitted, but the spare, jack & tools removed.

Not standard though, got a zorst & filter and run 14.5secs @ 97mph

It wont knock much off, but it does help...

When I had my 306 Rallye, I went from 15.1secs @ 89mph to 14.8secs @ 92mph by removing the rear seats, spare, jack, tools, etc. so a reasonable gain there, but it was the increased terminal speed that surprised me more!

Really? Blimey. Never thought it would make a difference. Ive never done the old 1/4 miling so I have no idea of the difference weight can make to your times etc...

Ill get me coat....
