Just look at the PGTi RR day in Bury from last year where the ATW figures for standard 172s ranged from 129bhp to 152bhp. Doesnt look too equal to me...

Mine got 136bhp on that day, by the way.

chill man.
No offense to you but the renualt staff/technicians at the dealers i have been to know sh*t all about their cars. FACT

Ps. I didnt mean you didnt know anything about Renaults in general i specifically meant the 172. Why then are all there 172s down on power when they are RRd?

Surely you should know this being a renault technician?;)

If they are not making 172bhp or ps then as you should know the marketing of the 172s is a fraud and is technically ilegal.

And i realise that certain enviromental conditions may affect the cars engine power when on the rolling road but if they state 172BHP then they should account for common enviromental conditions such as hot sunny weather consequently either increase the BHP on perfect conditions so when its hot its still 172 OR have said its a 162 or whatever the avg BHP is.

I personally think they have mislead the 172 consumer and it hasnt done their customer relations any good at all.

I worked with Rover fitters for 12 years. Suddenly the dealer becomes Renault. Now they are all Renault "technicians" .

aaronc; check the members 1/4 mile figures mate, all pretty consistant. Power differences arent down to Reno IMO, jus how u drive them from day 1 and any things which may have happened to effect the power since.

None of these comments are FACTs either IMHO.

AARONC - some cars when rollin roaded are down on power compared to the manufactures specifications. The reason being is that when an engine is hot you do loose some bhp. Ever seen guys pushin there cars to the start line when drag racin ? its to keep the engine cool for as long as possible. i had my v6 rollin roaded b4 i fitted my pipercross and had the ecu re-programmed (in order to increase the fueling throughout the revs) when it was rollin roaded from cold it was 231 bhp. After the engine got warmer it went down to 224 bhp. Next time theres a shoot out on a roller - get there 2 hrs b4 you go on (in order to let ya block cool down) & wheel your car onto the roller - i bet ya bhp figures are a tad higher.

paddy - i think 14.5 - but it was the 1st time ive raced that car - i could get about 14 sec if the clutch could take my gear changes. it seems to slip when i bang it in 2nd quickly. Did you know that renault had to de - tune the v6 because the gearbox could not cope with the original designated output - FACT.

I have an original press release brochure from 1998 when renault released info about the car to the media and renault franchises - have a look - im going to download it after my tea. mmmmmmmm sunday roast - decent.

Ive also got some vids from York, but I need some kind person to host them...

i own a standardish 1.8 16v. Does the 1/4 mid 15s. 0-60 in 7.1 0-100 in 18secs. Not impressive by any means but for a standard 1.8 its pretty good.

Owned the car for 4 years and raced many many other cars in its life. Willys and quite a few 172s., spyders, gtis, vts,TTs, bmws, you name it ive probably raced it.

And ive had many interesting results to say the least. Stuck to the bumper of 172s/willys on straights and corners between 0-115/120mph.

Probably the quickest 16v in the club, certaintly wasnt a friday afternoon job at the Renault construction factory, some even say the engine must have been hand built ,lol.
