Do the old plastic sandwich bag test, looks wise you won't see any benifits, polishes and waxes will wipe on and of easier after.

The polishing stage is the one that really counts.

On it's own, the benefits are minimal! To touch yes and as a primary step before machine polishing it's something i do every time...But to say it'll work miracles is optimistic.

I'm intrigued, what is the plastic sandwich bag test?
Hand in a plastic sandwich bag and test the smoothness of the paintwork.

As above means you can more easily feel anything stuck to the paint than you will with bare fingers.

The Clay wont have done anything for how shiny i is the polish will have done that all on its own. Despite the many threads on here saying it on here Claying can't make your car shiny.

Claying removes embedded and stuck on crap of the surface of your paint work, it is no abbrassive and contains nothing that will polish the paints and make a high gloss. It will however have make polishes and waxes more effective when used after it and give the smooth finish you have noticed.

i understand what you mean and seen as i dont think it had ever been done and sea air, bird poo etc over here meant that it was covered in crap so it did the paint good then the wax finished it off nicely

It is a worthy step, I cleaned an 2006 Mustang on Sunday hat had been shipped over uncovered on the boat, clay turned brown with each pass.

No damage at all, if you make it sure the paintwork is nice a wet, either with soapy water, or QD.

Use plenty of QD or a soapy water mix, as long as the surface is well lubricated, you keep kneading the clay to get a clean surface and the clay is warm and soft you will mimimize causing marring with it. If you drop it throw it away. No mater how careful you are claying tends to induce some minor marring on dark colours that you will need to polish out.

Depends on where it is parked or used, in an area of heavy industry or near railway lines may need doing monthly. Garaged and hardly left outside - never ;)

does that mean you've got to polish/protect/seal every month then ....defo hard work imo:eek:

It would do yes, as you say for most people once or maybe twice a year is more realistic and more often than not the case which means you can clay as part of the Winter and Summer details.
