Elephant and Admiral have always been cheapest for me. (Im 21) Putting my mum and dad on and having a low annual mileage have helped. The mileage was pretty interesting, I found that every 1000 miles I put on my 8k annual mileage added about £100 to the policy. Worth considering if youre finding the quotes are too high.

Try Bell Direct they are good they gave me the best price to insure my 172 i was getting quotes of £1600 to put my girlfriend on my insurance(just turned 22 and just passed her test) they quoted me £880 no-one could come near to there price

This is something that REALLY pisses me off-
Ive got 4years no claims bonus&the cheapest quote i can get with it being protected is £989 &im 23!
But it must come down to the postcode of where i live because i was talkin to a guy the other day who is 21&he drives a Skyline R33& his paying about £1200 full comp with Adrian Flux.
I did call them up but they could,nt beat the price.
Others are telling me that im either too young, or that i need to be over 25to get insured with this car which is Bol*ocks.

Try Privilege, they seem to be good for young drivers on 172/182 cars.

Im 26 with 7yrs ncb, sp30 and 1 knock - lowest i can get is £650. If I had no claims and a clean sheet it would still be £550.

When I was 21 Adrian Flux would not insure me at all although I had 1 years NCB and been driving 2 years - because I "did not have experience on a performance hot hatch" I moved to Elephant who covered me for £1600.

I found Admiral the best for quotes, I cheated and went under my mums insurance but its only £850 when I was 21!! Everywhere else at the time were quoting about £2000 under my mums name.

Elephant!!! not bad! they wanted £1200 then when i added me old dear on the policy BAM £400 off! LOL and when i set it up i got the NCB wrong (said 3yrs not 2) and how much extra did they chage... £6 thats right £6!!!! bargin!
