If you are seriously interested then you'll want to look here:

http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-releases/6.06/

6.06 (Dapper Drake) is the CURRENT release (6.10 (Edgy Eft) is due out on the 26th)

x86 Link: http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-releases/6.06/ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso
64Bit Link: http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-releases/6.06/ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-amd64.iso
Mac Link: http://ftp.ussg.iu.edu/linux/ubuntu-releases/6.06/ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-powerpc.iso

They are ISO's, so you need to burn them as IMAGES.

You can boot the OS from CD to try it out. The graphical installer is on the desktop.

Support forum: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/

The forum has a beginners section - I'd advise you ask any questions there. :)

Might be worth just getting the Live CD for now. :)

The Live CD and Installer are one in the same now, they call it a Desktop CD which is what I posted the links to :)

^^b****cks IMO :)

Why have a super fast modern PC with an OS that looks like s**t, just so you can have bragging rights about how your (ones) expensive system is doing f**k all :)

For a gaming profile it's fine, but for everyday use I like my OS to at least be attractive to use, otherwise we may as well have stuck with 266Mhz MMX (or whatever they were) and Windows 95.

Each to his own though.

EDIT: only two instances of svchost.exe? Is that system even stable and connected to the web etc?

System is extremly stable, Been running unformatted for 2 - 3 years,
If i wanted the pc for 'Looks' i could, But i do alot of things at the same time on it, Script,Play games,Msn,Websites(clio sport) And i would rather not have silly themes and stuff to slow my work down ;)

Each to his own ;)

oo and lol about the 'bragging rights', Don't no about other people but Bragging about my computer isn't one of my pulling tack ticks / Chat up lines ;) :p

3 svchost.exe open atm, And yes its on the internet ;)

Bloody hell my session of Opera is using more memory than you are using for your whole system! Hmm... maybe that's because I have about 60 tabs open all the time.

I've noticed that you don't have either a firewall of anti-vrus package installed, bit risky whilst your downloading from Limewire if you ask me. You do remember your running Windows and not Linux don't you, that'll be why you run a fast machine ;) Move over to the dark side, then you can have a fast PC which is also safe!
