My RS2'd RB van

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Not seen em before @Dan@SJM , def looks it gives a better range of adjustment .
What's yours set to ?
Is it the same as Chip's one

Please dont go thinking that cause mine is set where it is it means I think thats the ultimate position for all cars, I just set it to maximum firmness as a starting point and will work back from there, but bear in mind that Ive got significantly more roll resistance in the springs on the front relative to the back than a lot of people run, if I had softer front springs then I probably wouldnt want the bar at all or would have it on miniumum.

  53 Clio's & counting
It's the group buy one from a company down here, they manufactured them to Russ_16v spec iirc.

Ha id forgotten about that, yeah we took the measurements of my rear (lol) made it up and I had the prototype on my car, I ran it for a bit and suggested a few tweaks and it worked very well, i ran that prototype on my black ph 1 for aaaaages

Had a good time over at the ring last weekend.
There was so much front end grip with the rollcentre kit on it that I decided to disconnect the rear ARB after a couple laps as I was nervous the back might lose traction before the front on one of the high speed corners in the wet.

In other news I have just had the 197 engine fired up in the ph1 shell that I am mocking it up in. Quite shrouded when it barked into life considering I was only turning it over to see if the Ecus (Runs standard and aftermarket) were happy with the 197 crank sensor signal.
Map on it was one I wrote for a cammed Williams engine on calibra turbo injectors of all things so wasn't expecting it to run. Especially as it's got a 197 throttle on it and hence not even plugged in yet as the ph1 loom has a different connector.
Bit noisey with no exhaust manifold on it yet though. Lol.

Hoping to have it drivable by the end of the year while it still has MOT, Drive Shafts and lack of free time are the only major issues really.

Oh. One other update. Bought this mega good condition 182 head for the hybrid 182/197 engine when it finally goes in the RB.

Story behind it's condition allegedly is it's only been dyno run briefly. By mclaren for some weird reason and then ended up with a another motorsport company who then had it for a customer engine build and in the end didn't use it.

Good to see you had a good time on the ring mate!

what are you doing with the other car now? High comp using 197 bottom end and 182 head?
the head looks absolutely brand new, nice find!

At the moment the turbo car is totally on hold, I am waiting to see how the 197 conversion pans out and then might swap from a 172/JC5 to a megane/ND0 002 box instead if it all goes well, as although Ive been lucky with my rebuilt Quaiffe'd JC5 I know that ultimately its no match for the megane box.

Yes its going to be a high comp RS2 lump using 197 bottom end and a 182 head for the RB hopefully if all goes to plan :)

Few bits about it here if you are on FB?

You're off to the ring very soon yourself arent you?

Have fun!

i'll have a look tonight mate, i do have a facebook account but don't really use it that much.

yes i'm off to the ring the 20th mate, will see how the dci holds this time :) it's absolutely not the fastest but get's my heartrate going so that's all it takes to have some fun!
it does go around the twisties pretty well, managed to keep a few porsches behind me last year (probably has more to do with the driver but i don't mind :D)

Sounds good to me mate, the last thing I want at the ring is lots of power, quickest car ive driven there is only a 350bhp cossie and even that was less enjoyable than putting our clio round TBH, until you are really good there, power isnt any use really, just means when you have an accident its more expensive, lol.

Enjoy!

I've only ever driven on the Nurburgring in my old Clio DCI80. It was great fun, did 25 laps. This is one is from 2007 following edde from here as he was showing me the way round :) (back when phone cameras where VGA)

I feel violated with all this DERVness going on in the thread about our high revving low torque n/a petrol car, lol

But seriously, the ring is so much NOT about being quick for the first 1000 laps or so IMHO, learn it properly in whatever you have that handles well and then worry about pace later!

Petrol power ftw!!! 8 merlin engines singing happily as they use more than a gallon a minute with another 4 merlins just purring away on the ground. Derv power may be winning Le Mans, but petrol power helped to win the war! Flol!

Lol, dervness is great for daily driving, especially considering today's gas price!

i know it's not about pace, for me it's just fun! I only go there once a year so i don't need to be a hero :)

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Le mans is irrelevant, what wins there is decided not by true innovation but how the rules favour one power plant over another, let the petrols be same size as the diesels and allowed same use of turbos etc and they would soon be winning again!

They will change the rules to make an electric only car win it soon if they can figure out a way to do so, they love a bit of "shock le mans news" headlines to keep things interesting!

Can't open the FB page mate, probably because i'm not member of the group?

Yes up for it providing the engine and box are in and done. Also, how much of a group are we talking? Big numbers mean big logistical issues for going out for food/hotels etc etc.

Probably 40 or so I would guess, but the plan is not to try and all eat at once, more a case of a collection of smaller groups if that makes sense?

You prefer camping or hotel? As I think people are going to be doing both, Im probably going to camp just as I havent done so there before I have always hotel'd it and that might mean missing out on a bit of the evening atmosphere round the camp fire etc!

  R5 gtt, R27 F1 team
No idea who that is mate, going from the talking now and then he's German.
when you do go to the ring let me know!

Holy s**t! 40?!?

I'd rather pickle my testicles than camp tbh. Got frostbite from camping at spa in August for the f1 - never again! Lol! I even had a 4 seasons sleeping bag!!

Yeah I think something along those lines based on chats so far mate!

We used to get as many as 70 back in the old PF glory days!

Lol, well when I say camp, in my case I mean with a thermostatically controlled propane heater in my fully insulated camper van, but I will be 40 at the time so im allowed to wimp out, lol.

The most I've been with was 10 mate and it was horrendous tbh. Started going just me and the missus in the end and preferred it a lot more.

Ah so not proper camping then! Cheats camping! Flol!

I love it in a big group, always someone to passenger with or to jump in your car with out etc, but I guess you are there for hardcore laptimes not to be messing about being social, lol

Car looks great.

Go Pro footage?

TBH was nothing really worth watching the on the go pro, we didnt get a single clear/dry lap.
Literally nothing under 10 mins and we only recorded a couple anyway although nearly all the pics taken were of those laps so almost all the pictures show it fitted, lol.

Not updated this in AGES, so thought i'd stick up some photos of whats happened to the car in the past year or so.

The engine that was in the car was getting a bit tired, and was starting to breathe a bit. Knew this when we got it so was long overdue a nice new engine. Found one on 32k so took the old one out and put the new one in. Didn't bother putting the cams in the new engine so the engine is still standard with the RS2 fitted.

Never had anyone in the back seats so converted the back to be a van! Makes sense as i only ever folded the seats down to put wheels in anyway.

No real car updates, cars currently sat on the drive getting dirty and covered in leaves!
Did the Bedford Renault Sport day last month, so a couple of pictures from that. Awesome evening, nice & quiet.
