Peugeot 106 GTi track project

  Megane 250
That's fair enough and I bet it already goes well due to the power to weight ratio it has!

It's not to shabby, could always use that little bit more like on longer straights its obviously not a patch on the bigger cars, but it makes up for it on the twisty bits.

Cage arrived today! No pictures yet as it was delivered whilst I was out and is spread across the living room.

Roll cage = Adults mechano ;)

Love the 106. We have a 106 Gti rally car. I've been thinking about swapping my 172 cup for a c2 vts. Not as fast but they look fun

So today has been successful, stared to mock up the roll cage, stripped a little more interior and removed seats to fit it.

Also picked up 2, 5 point sabelt harnesses for an absolute steal!

I'll let the pics show the progress

Next weekend I'm out in Cardiff, so I doubt much will be done

Also picked up an oil cooler and oil catch tank

First track day of the year will be booked shortly for 1st April at Llandow with RSUK.

Not updated this for a little while.

Managed to get the cage fitted, car seemed to handle a lot better on track, seemed stiffer not sure if this just a placebo.

Also noticed that having decent harnesses mounted properly is a lot more comfortable and supportive to drive with, seem to hold you in place a lot better.

Anyways had a track day at llandow on 1st April, was a good day, had some new brake pads, mintex 1144, so much better than oem, no brake fade, could brake later and had a lot more confidence, I did manage to kill off my front two R888s though.

But black circles were selling some AD08rs for a reasonable price so I've had a set of them delivered and will get fitted soon.

Booked for track time at French car show 11-1pm slot, also hoping to book pembrey for June/July, I have llandow to book for September and I've booked castle Combe for November, hopefully I'll fit another in somewhere, perhaps Anglesey in August?

Anyways here's a few pictures for anyone that's interested.

Most of them pictures taken by @SimpleJoee who was daft enough to be my passenger for most of the day.

Little brother was wondering what to get me for my birthday.

Ended up with some pressed plates, better than the cheap looking ones that said "GTi" up the side.

Had these delivered last week.

Now I'm note sure I've mentioned this in here but I bought a Renaultsport sabelt wheel for the daily 182 and I didn't have a boss, so I've been toying with replacing the omp Corsica I have had in the GTi since I've had the car, I wanted something with less/no dish for more room.

Just before the last track day I decided to fit it to see what it was like and I much prefer it, so although it's Renaultsport it's staying in this.

I'll clean the screws or replace at some point.

I'll get the tyres fitted, and just enjoy the car, I took it for a short blast this morning before any rain and well, although it's probably only 130-140bhp, loud, obnoxious and uncomfortable, down some nice lanes and on track it all makes sense and I absolutely love the car.

This is the first time I've been able to have it insured alongside the daily, so no need to swap insurances over, it feels more special as I can use it when I want and I don't have to rely on it.

Big big plans for this little car.

  Megane 250
That looks great.

Cheers buddy, was contemplating morettes and canards etc, but I think I like how standard it looks.

It is f**king awesome. Makes me see how far Josh has come in the likes of progress.

Envy at the same time, he's got bits I want! Can't wait for more days like today in Summer, both cars will be on point and very very similar

Cheers dude, she's come along way from that standard mess with a bodged exhaust just over a year ago!

We need more drives out with the VTS!

Great pics.

See what you mean about it looking nice and standard but morettes would look mean.

I might get some at some point, won't lose money on them tbh.

I'm going to get carbon rallye vents and carbon wing mirrors at some point, I love carbon and haven't got any so that will happen.

Possibly polycarb Windows as well.

Looks nice on the pro race.
Avoid polycarbs mate, waste of time, money and practicality. The weight saving just isn't worth it, in that area. I've been and done it. They scratch by just being breathed on. it is also difficult to get a mcflurry passed through the vent holes.

Cheers man, it's on odd wheels until I get fresh tyres fitted on weekend, will be pro race alround then!

I have heard that, but undecided but tbh I like the look lol

It does look mega racey with them in, that's for sure. They are awful though, if you use the car on the road (looks like you do) but perfect for race cars and the like.
Truth is, the rear quarters save you a few grams, the glass there isn't heavy. There's hardly any weight on these over their arse, so the rear window is a loss leader. The impracticality of the front windows though... they're noisey and flimsy and the mcflurry thing is a real issue for fatties.

When is the next track adventure?

You're a track slag! Would be good to see some on-board, in action.

RE: the windows, I've been there and done it and I could have/should have used the money for something else, is all. Part of the adventure of doing this stuff is finding what works for you/what you like though - so take what I say with a pinch of salt.

Here's a video from the last day I done

I'm far from a good driver, but it's all part of the fun!

So I had this sent to me earlier from @SimpleJoee

Picture of the GTi on track at llandow back in April at the RSUK day!

As some of you may have also seen in Joe's (SimpleJoee) other thread a few of us in Saxos/106's went for a drive Sunday.

Here's some pictures.

I've also just ordered some new front discs as mine have cracked.

French car show is just over 1 week away, this weekend I have to raise the rear as it scrubs terrible on these tyres, more so than the R888's not sure why as same profile, but looking at the car, the passenger side, does seem lower than drivers side.

Changing exhaust to a silenced one, and I've also noticed my front wishbone seems to be a little loose, so need to investigate, believe a captured nut, is no longer captured and just needs tightening up.

French car show was good yesterday,

The show its self was a bit s**t, but catching up with people was good and some track time was fun!

Anyways, I come home and made a very expensive purchase... Well I will be once I've sorted a van out to collect.

I've lined up a new engine, sandy brown big valve head, pugsport baffled sump, Newman ph3 cams... And Jenvey throttle bodies!

It won't be going in straight away as I've got a few track days lines up, and a holiday to pay for.

But it will be run on omex 600, which is something that needs purchasing too, but the guy I'm buying this off has a printout for this engine of 178bhp!

I'll update with some videos later! Here's a picture though.

Here's a couple of pictures and a link to YouTube, tomorrow's weather is a bit s**t apparently so I'll go through the GoPro footage properly.

Lovely car but a bit of a tip for you, dont pass the steering wheel like your on your driving test, keep your hands at 10 to 2 and cross your arms when you steering. Its easier to catch a slide

Cheers buddy!

Cheers for the advice, I'll give that a try, all a big learning curve haha!

So the engine I was gonna buy didn't come through, so bought these on the weekend:-

Satchell GSXR Throttle bodies and ITG Filter
DTA S40 Pro ecu and sandy brown loom
3bar Webber billet fpr

Expensive Sunday, but I can't wait to have them fitted, mocked then up on Wednesday.

As you can see, they are very close to the bulkhead, so will need to be cut out so I can actually fit the filter and also get some more cold air to the trumpets.

Llandow is booked for 9th September snd need to get up and running and an MOT, plenty of time...

  Megane 250
So this is now running the throttle bodies... What a noise it makes, it's incredible!

Went to llandow with @SimpleJoee on Friday and also met @Jimbob 2705

What a great track day, considering the gti only passed MOT on Wednesday and I had covered 20miles at most with the itbs, it got me to llandow and back and a day around the track without any issues at all, it drove fantastically.

Unfortunately though I didn't use my GoPro or get any pictures, which in a little annoyed at, as I had a few sessions where I think I was going very well...

Roll on Combe in November!

302e15ee7dabba2a9ce43e3593307930.jpg

Ignore my home brew catch tank and manifold, my old 4-2-1 cracked, so I'm gonna be buying a new one shortly.

  Megane 250
So nothing has changed with this.

Booking castle Combe for march, so I'm looking forward to getting it back out on track.

Gotta sort a new battery, so it'll be a little lightweight one relocated from the engine bay so I can fit a catch tank.

Just got in from giving it a quick clean.

Castle Combe yesterday, first track day off the year.

Didn't end well, first session I went out and some how the connection got fuel pump had disconnected, so got recovered, sorted that.

2nd session I went into camp corner a little bit too fast on a wet day and this happened.

Soon as I get a dry half an hour, I'll get it up
And check if there is any damage, the tacking is out but not too bad and drives not too bad, it got me 65miles home after a quick bodge to a split water pipe.

But looking over it needs a door, wing, mirror and rear light, then track rod end, but need to check for any other damage.
