What to do with exhaust.. too loud

Hello all,

I feel like im just really old now having to type this,

My 172 currently has a Ktec sports cat and a Yozza exhaust. im having a new to me engine put in with 197 cams and arp rod bolts etc so the car is due to be mapped pretty soon.

ive moved house and im in a pretty built up area so this exhaust is just a total nuisance.

im wondering what my options are really on the side of fairly free flowing exhausts that are a bit more on the quiet side of things.

I had thought about just taking the centre section out and having a local place weld in a silencer, would this choke the car up at all come mapping time? or even if I was to have the car mapped and then do this later down the road...

either that or sell the yozza for a quieter system, not been on the Clio scene for some time so what other exhausts are they making now that aren't just totally asbo loud?

thanks

Adding a silencer won't do anything to your overall power from mapping.

It'd have to be something like a 1.5" diameter exhaust to even restrict it 😂

Great stuff that sounds like a better option ££ wise than a full new exhaust.

How loud is it? Do you have a video?

Surely with a sports cat its not too noisy.

its more where the car lives is in a garage at the back of a load of houses, you have to travel up a walled lane so the noise is just amplified everywhere.

Ive not got a video that does it justice of how loud it is.

Is it possible the silencer has gone on your current backbox?

It could be a possibility, however I had a brand new yozza on my old 172 and I recon it was just as loud. Im just older and sensitive.

That noise will 100% be because of the k-tec sports cat (ok maybe not 👀) but if you fancy selling it, let me know ;)

Haha if standard Cats weren't so expensive I would put a it back to how it was from factory
Well I have a standard 172 cat so a swap would have been cool but I just remembered I need the 182 manifold to 172 sports cat. Oh well!

I dont think theres really a super quiet option thats cheap
The Supersprint will be tolerable as they have to pass certain german rules to get their TUV approval but they are expensive. Its a smaller 54mm bore which helps too.
I would get a decent straight through oval silencer and get it added to the centre pipe.
Its probably easiest to do this on the car as the system can be held in place.
The Yozza was never quiet so I'd get as big as you can get away with.

Cheers Kev, thanks for the info I had a look on Kam and I recon a full new system is just out of my price range.

I think that's going to be the way forward, I had a cat back exhaust build about 12 years go for my 1.2 by a local place that seems so be highly rated and still in business.. shall give them a call.

I had this issue with my impreza. I had a custom resonator made. Has made no difference to the power but had taken the edge off of the noise, especially on the motorway. cost me £200 which was much cheap than replacing it.
