I found the 180 NS2R terrible on the megane. Could not get enough heat into them on road use/cold weather use, car felt so skitty. They go off fast on track when hot, and i managed to split a sidewall on one of them. Cheap tyres and poor performance to suit, i had more sideways moments with these on than any other tyres resulting in my only trackday accident.

Removed and replaced for michelin pilotsports and the car is totally transformed, predictable and good grip on road use, also have a set of mh compound Yoko A048 and they are leagues ahead in grip, wet and dry.

Best option for occasional track use would be a spare set of wheels with a good set of semi’s on, R888R or whatever.

A052 are stupidly good too. I keep my eyes open for A048 and 52 all the time if they pop up cheap. Or R888R

Probably why I have no space in the b*****d garage tbqfh

yeah I hated the NS2-R's as well, useless on road and track and loads of noise too, awful things.

@dann2707 only tyre for that really that performs well on both counts are the old version of the R888's in medium compound. Not too noisy, okay for road use as don't need loads of heat in them to work well enough and don't just surrender on track like NS2-R, AD08R, R888R or RSR all of which I find just give up as soon as they're vaguely warm. Only issue the R888 is they'll try to kill you in standing water, they wear pretty quick, oh and you can't buy them anymore.....doh!

11 year old A048 cold in the wet > ad08rs warm in the dry. And Im being serious. Its such a shame the 195/50/16 in the a048s are just too tall for for the front, spaced out the gearing way too much.

I've just ordered a set of AR1s after reading this thread. They are an 80 compound and I only realised after I'd placed the order, that the tyres you guys talked about were in fact 100 compound!

Will these tyre wear out significantly faster than the 100s? I've got 4 track days booked in the next few months, so curious whether it's worth cancelling the order and getting the 100s.

Ok so long story but ad08rs arnt bad. Thats all im saying... o_O
Go on... I'm thinking i'll just get ad08rs tbh. Unsure whether to get a set all round, or leave the original ad08r's on the back as they're still only like 4mm

If people on the internet who were complaining about lap times, then they shouldn't be using those tyres in the first place.

They're literally just a road tyre.

(Not having a go at you by the way mate).
Yeah I know but they were the go to do all tyre and the AD08R was a genuinely quick tyre with the right pressure and setup, Comparable to some "track" tyres

Shame, I've got them on mine now but probably gonna have to go for Cup2 next

I've been out in my mates Clio on the RS's and it doesn't feel that bad tbh.

Cup 2's would piss all over either version haha.

Tbf I've not used them either but the datalogs I've seen show they are slower

I don't think Cup 2 is that much quicker than the R version, Softer sidewalls though which is a little annoying.

Shame you csnt get the Goodyear equivalent to the Cup is "normal" sizes

I'm not actually sure, I though the A050 was that but they never came to Europe did they?

Did read they were meant to be a step up to replace the AD08R but not sure how much truth was in that

Ah yeah the A050.

Hardly see them about, so mustn't do them over here.

@Louis @dann2707 @-Jamie-

Long story short. My epas decided to s**t itself and had tons of flex, possibly due to the ecu being the culprit and not reading the torque sensors correctly. So the car would go everywhere! I took epas off and fit manual column and apart from barely being able to turn the grip was light years more. Imo you wouldnt need a gripper tyre for the road.

@dann2707 have a look at this guy on eBay. does loads of decent new and used 15" track tyres fairly cheap. Ive used him loads and he's spot on. Always accepts best offer as well, normally between 20-30% off the advertised price.

That is awesome to know. I've saved him. Thanks for that matey
Still love that video.

My pants were brown after that, I have to admit.
😂😂😂😂

Here's to many more moments like that in the near future dude 😘😘

My mate rates MRF very highly, like chewing gum when hot but take the punishment & last.
Not sure if they make sizes suitable for clio?

Yeah they do the ZTR in 195/50/15 and a few other 15" and 16" sizes.

I need some new rears so give them to me?

SOLD. I had to try them for myself and not just go off internet whispers from folk whose 'mate' (everyone's got a 'mate' haven't they) says they're crap.

But I'm in full agreement, they're not a patch on the old AD08R by a long shot. All they do is screech and not grip. Gutted, cos the Ad08r were brilliant.

I dunno if you guys get different compounds over there but pretty much all of your tyre experiences are at polar opposites to my first hand experience.

The ones you love I just shake my head at. Ar1, rsrr, etc.

Then you come out and slate AD08’s which have been the best compromise tyre on a clio so far for me. Probably more to do with driving style I imagine.

I ran AD08R last winter/spring at two trackdays, thinking they would be a good wet tyre owing to the tread pattern and more roadgoing nature of them. In the wet and Donington they were very average, have since gone to RainSport 3's which are a country mile better - in the soaking wet at Silverstone in November I could keep with a novice TCR driver on racing wets through Maggots - Becketts.

Ran them one day in the dry at Cadwell Park in May, ambient temp about 20c, sunny day. After one day they had basically de-laminated. Ran 30psi hot all round, didn't have a pyrometer back then so not sure of surface temp. Sufficed to say these came straight off!

Went back to R888R which are decent, next tyre to try will be DZ03G as I've heard great things.
