The Power PC Thread [f*ck off consoles]

I now have 24Gb of RAM sat on my desk to go in the Alienware, which still hasn't hit production yet. Goddamn component shortages :censored:

Ah well, sometime in April......

I can't believe the GFX card insanity is actually getting worse, non-Ti 1080s going for £400+! What the hell! I may as well break my PC for parts than try to sell it all in one with prices like this.
One of my work colleagues managed to nab two Founders Edition RTX3080 cards pretty much on release day. Offered one to me at the price that he paid (£680) which I politely refused at the time.

Yeah..... in hindsight, that was a mistake!

Got round to taking it apart for a dust as a faulty temp diode in the loop was causing system hangs.

Joined the mighty PCMR. I managed to find a 3070 with Scan (obviously over RRP) so the build should be done next week.

Also got this monster in the post yesterday... 49 inches of 5120x1440 goodness. Half for work reasons but a fair bit because it was baller as f*ck.

Personally I'd go for one of the Logitech wireless mice, ideally the G Pro but if you need more buttons then something like the G903

Be prepared for desoldering/replacing switches if you go G903. With mine I had the double click issue, upgraded to the "better" Japanese switches and had the same problem. Put Kailh Red ones in (iirc) and it's been fine since.

That explains why it's so heavily discounted then, does the pro have that issue too?

Not sure tbh, probably best checking the reviews and seeing if they mention it for any mouse you are looking at.

£60 for the 903 is pretty crazy, you could probably do the switch swap and still be under RRP factoring in replacement pads/tools. 😅

Mines a 12k dpi version from a few years back, not sure if they've changed anything moving to the 16k dpi one switch wise.

I have the Pro and it's awesome (Though I would expect nothing less for the price). Think I have had it for 2 years without fault.

I picked up a G703 with the 16k “Hero” sensor for £50 last year. Looks like it’s going for the same as the G903 now though!

I just wanted a decent wireless mouse and I’ve always liked the Logitech stuff.

How does that even work? Do windows naturally snap to that aspect?
Windows has auto snapping and there's a proper nifty macOS app that has a bunch of snapping configs that can be assigned to keyboard shortcuts, use my work Mac with my ultra wide and it's fantastic.

Sweet. Is there a limit to how many windows Windows can auto snap?

I went for the hyperx 😁

I'm liking it so far. Buttons feel nice and clicky. Good shape. I hid the receiver behind my monitor so it is just sticking out the bottom, right next to the mouse. I tried it in the USB port on the back of the tower but it was out of range.

Being able to charge it wirelessly is a plus for me too. Just chuck it on my phone charger at night

I got my first wireless mouse in 2003. The logitech mx700, really good mouse. Used for it for years until I found 800dpi wasn't enough any more.

Went back to corded mice after that.

Quite a bit, unfortunately, 2560x1440 is not far off double the number of pixels that the card has to push. It does depend where the bottleneck is in your setup though, if you're CPU-bound rather than GPU bound then the difference will likely be much smaller.

This covers it all pretty well

My povvo-spec Alienware R10 arrived today, so I've done the basics (McAfee deleted, MS account/OneDrive setup, etc) then took it apart to fit the extra 24Gb of memory and the 2Tb SSD I bought for it at a fraction of what Dell wanted. Liking it so far.

What I can't believe is the keyboard they shipped with it. I knew it would likely be lousy, and I didn't need it anyway so I would have removed it from the order if I could, but there was no way to do that. It's £££ of their "high end" gaming PC and they send it out with the basic Dell chicklet keyboard, it's one of the worst I've ever seen. In. The. Bin. #eWaste

How much does an increase from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 lower the performance? I want a high res monitor because with 1080 at 23", I can see the mouse cursor moving through the pixels and its not precise in game.

Any suggestions for entry level 1ms 2560x1440 monitors? Looking at this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/38403264...9Vqr46MnGg761UQQqGQUs2V5Ta3Gc_ygaApVSEALw_wcB

That's still 1080p mate, but tbh I'm surprised you can notice the pixels on a 23" 1080p. The DPI should be fine at that size and resolution

Are you talking about Hz instead? 120hz+ monitors are night and day compared to 60hz. Butter smooth!
