ABS firing when braking gently

I’ve been unable to cure an ABS issue on my 182 (with Cup Packs) despite having new rear hubs and two new front ABS rings and sensors recently fitted.

The ABS pointlessly fires when I’m at a crawling pace and gently braking. Under harder brake pressure it remains off, and I know it works correctly when on a slippery surface because I’ve brake tested on wet grass.

Oddly, I’ve no dash lights on. Any ideas what the problem could be? Could this be a symptom of the ABS pump being faulty?

Any advice is greatly appreciated, as always!

The only time I’ve experienced something like this was caused by the airgap being to large on one of the sensors. Fine when pushing on, but triggering the abs at slow speeds/light braking.

exact same issue on my 182 van, was rear left ABS sensor

worked as normal above 5mph including kicking in when required, no lights on dash, looking at live data on diagnostics showed it wasn't reading any speed though

Thanks both, I'll investigate! A sensor seems likely actually because I've just realised both rear ones are probably as old as the car...

Anyone have any horror stories relating to this eBay ABS sensor? It's listed as 'genuine', but eBay is eBay. Seems Reno doesn't stock the part anymore :(

Did you find a sensor that fitted?

I did find sensors, they're harder to source than most parts and I kept reading that Bosch parts might not fit, despite having the correct part number. My parts are coming from Autodoc in Germany, so should arrive in a few days. I'll update here with the results...

I've got two new ABS rings up front so they're ok, so hoping these sensors fix the issue. Otherwise I'm going to investigate fitting 172 Cup brake bits and bin the ABS altogether
